Yee Sang with Jelly Fish & Crispy Fish Skin
Toss for good luck, wealth and prosperous with Lai Ching Yuan Yee Sang selections, including Jelly Fish & Crispy Fish Skin Yee Sang, Norwegian Salmon & Crispy Skin Yee Sang, Soft Shell Crab & Norwegian Salmon Yee Sang, Sliced Abalone Yee Sang, Scallop, Pear & Mango Yee Sang.
We tried out Jelly Fish & Crispy Fish Skin Yee Sang. Plenty of texture, with extra addictive crispiness delivered by Crispy Fish Skin, capped with tangy sweetness from plum sauce poured over.
Assorted Seafood Soup with Tofu
Even though without luxurious ingredients that Chinese love to have during Chinese New Year, such as fish maw, abalone or sea cucumber, the soup still scored with flying colours for a down to earth flavours. Good pairing of smooth tofu and egg white swirls in thick consistency soup, helmed with fresh flavours of assorted seafood.
Steamed Mandarin Fish with Minced Ginger
One of our favourites on Lai Ching Yuen CNY Menu. Kwai Fah Fish steamed to the right timing, locking in juicy, meaty flesh beneath the thin skin layer, dressed in a bed of soy sauce. Topped with chock-full of finely minced ginger for a pleasing spicy, pungent match with the dish.
Buttered Prawn
Buttered Prawn is more ordinary, but a must in Chinese New Year meal as prawn signifying lots of laughters, joy and smiles in Mandarin and Cantonese. Love the deep fried egg floss garnishing.
Cantonese Style Roasted Crispy Duck
Chef Terrence has acquired deep experience in preparing roasted duck before joining Lai Ching Yuen Grand Millennium, hence rest assured, their Cantonese Style Roasted Crispy Duck will easily earn praises from customers.
Deep Fried Enoki Mushroom with Hong Kong Kailan
Fried Rice with Assorted Chinese Waxed Meat Wrapped in Lotus Leaf
Huge portion of fried rice with Chinese waxed meat, more than enough for 10 pax. A tad too salty for our liking but still decent overall, especially enjoyed biting into flavourful preserved meat.
New Year “Nian Gao” Dual Variation
While many restaurants place in a lot of effort to present Nian Gao, the traditional Chinese sweet treat to more creative, brand new dessert, Lai Ching Yuen on the other hand, preserve the classic. And yeah, we really like this deep fried Nian Gao. This dish reminds us the CNY snack our mum used to make for us at home. Chewy glutinous rice cake, sandwiched within a piece of yam and sweet potato, battered and deep fried. Eat while pipping hot. Sooo good.
Double Boiled Chrysanthemum with Longan & Black Sesame Rice Dumpling
The meal end with dessert that looks common physically, but tells a difference at the first sip. Yeap, it is not ginger red dates soup or brown sugar soup base, but double boiled chrysanthemum with longan. More subtle in flavours, less sweet, submerged with sesame tang yuan.
So, swing your way to the new year with abundance of traditionally infused dishes in Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur Hotel this year. Not to forget, Lai Ching Yuen is famous for their nice dim sum too. Make sure to try out if you haven’t!
