For those who bumped into any other restaurant with similar name, do note that they are not franchise or outlets of the group. There’s only one Ducking Restaurant 王帝鴨 in Klang Valley, which is Jaya One. For the best and and original Ducking roasted duck, make sure you are in the right location.
北京烤鴨 Beijing Duck
Of why we love Ducking Restaurant 王帝鴨 Roasted Duck, because it never failed to impress – Golden brown, glossy, crispy skin set off with thin layer of fat, followed by juicy, chewy but not rubbery meat. What’s more noteworthy, dishes from the restaurant are affirmed with high praises from Chua Lam, Hong Kong famous celebrity food critics.
We were there on a Friday evening for pre-weekend dinner, started off with Beijing Duck, the must-have signature dish in Ducking Restaurant 王帝鴨. Place a slice of roasted duck skin and meat, some julienne scallions, and small dollop of sweet bean sauce on warm pancake skin, fold everything together, take a large bite and enjoy the yummy multi-textures. Honestly, we prefer munching on just the roasted duck skin rather than putting it in a wrap, because the skin is really addictive, delicious!
杏香沙律蝦球 Deep Fried Prawn with Mayonaise
Apart from Peking Duck, Ducking also offers an extensive selections of Chinese cuisine at reasonable price. From traditional delights such as Stewed Village Chicken with Chinese Wine, Steamed Live Prawns with Minced Garlic, Sweet & Sour Prawn to modern fusion choices including Baked Live Prawn in French Style, Deep Fried Prawn with Mayonaise, Sweet & Sour Pork with Strawberry, there’s surely something to please.
干煎醬爆草蝦 Pan Fried Tiger Prawn with Chili Sauce
From mid of December 2015 onwards, you have more reasons to dine in Ducking Restaurant 王帝鴨, thanks to the special promotional lunch and dinner set menu, available on from Monday to Friday, priced from Rm108++ for 4 pax ( 4 dishes + soup + rice) , RM158++ for 6 pax ( 5 dishes + soup + rice) and RM218++ for 8 pax ( 5 dishes + soup + rice). The are 30 items on the list, where some are popular dishes from permanent menu, but mostly off menu choices specially designed by chef of Ducking Restaurant for this promotion. Definitely worth trying because you never know if you would get to taste them again.
真假豆腐 Steamed Beancurd with Prawn & Brown Sauce
Take the Steamed Beancurd with Prawn & Brown Sauce for example, it scores for being memorable in both idea and taste. The dish looks just like steamed egg but as you start scooping through, you’ll find — Japanese tofu within. Double silky smoothness from Japanese beancurd, and the steamed egg. As its Chinese name implies – Real Tofu? Or not?
傳辣茄子金鳳 Stewed Tilapia in Szechuan Style
Stewed Tilapia in Szechuan Style, our favourite dish that night. Tilapia was deep fried, then stewed in claypot with aubergine, and Szechuan style sauces. Flavourful, but mild in spiciness.
黃酒菜園雞 Stewed Village Chicken with Chinese Wine
Stewed Village Chicken with Chinese Wine – A timeless dish, heaped with nourishing flavours, and taste of home. Grandma used to prepare this for us, especially during Chinese New Year and Winter Solstice. We were still young that time, hence drinking the soup is a rare chance for us to ” taste wine like a boss”. LOL. #youalwayswanttogrowupfasterwhenyouwereyoung
老少平安 Steamed Beancurd with Fish Paste
Steamed Beancurd with Fish Paste is something interesting to us, even though it is a common homecook dish for many. Shame to say, we grown up having fish paste stuffed in halved beancurd (aka yong tau fu) more and only know about this dish recently. Fish paste + mashed tofu -> steam together = natural sweetness released from fish + mouthful of bounciness and creamy softness. So good. Will order this again in our next visit in Ducking.
野菌蜜豆牛肉 Sliced Beef with Honey Bean
南乳骨 Deep Fried Pork Rib with Preserved Beancurd
Deep Fried Pork Rib with Preserved Beancurd tasted rather pale for us, as we could barely taste the unique saltiness of preserved beancurd (nam yue). Perhaps a longer marination time is a good option to have the distinctive flavour get through deeper into meat.
杏香太式雞 Thai Style Chicken
An all-time-favourite that is easily loved by the young and old. Thick cut of meat, deep fried to golden brown to result in crispy exterior, succulent interior. Dressed over with spicy-sweet sauce for an appetizing finish.
干扁四季豆 Baby French Bean with Minced Pork
Finally, a plate of Baby French Bean with Minced Pork to round up the meal with some fibres. (Off topic) Was eager to try out their Pork Lard Rice 豬油飯 too but sadly, it was sold out. Suggest to come early or be ready to be disappointed.
Comment: Personally, we like their Roasted Duck, Stewed Chicken with Chinese Wine, Stewed Tilapia in Szechuan Style and Steamed Beancurd with Fish Paste. Do visit Ducking Restaurant with friends and families for delicious Chinese homecook lunch or dinner.
