Looking at the huge signboard of Crab Generation 蟹的傳人 placed above Restoran 99, Taman Len Sen Cheras KL, we are pretty much convinced that food served here will be good. All because we saw a line of words stated “Crab Generation is second branch of famous Fei Fei Crab in Kepong.
Steamed “Seabird” with Garlic Ginger RM30/6 pieces
Our last visit to Fei Fei Crab 肥肥蟹 was 2 years ago, but on and off, we heard positives reviews about Fei Fei Crab, or friends recommending us to visit the restaurant. No doubt their dishes are delicious, and our credit goes to one of the memorable dishes named 2012, which we also available on Crab Generation menu. Make sure to check it out.
Steamed Prawns and Bee Hoon in XO Sauce RM58/3 prawns (Promotion)
This time at their sister restaurant, we tried out few other items, including classic Chinese favourite and seafood with modern twist. Started mild with Steamed Prawns and Bee Hoon in XO Sauce, currently at RM58 promotional price for 3 large prawns. Douse the nourishing gravy onto white rice, tuck into fresh bouncy prawns or slurp down mee hoon soaked with XO sauce first? You choose.
Deep Fried Pattaya Pork Knuckle RM48- RM58
Facing a mouth-watering deep fried pork knuckle, there’s no such thing as “I am on diet”. Tender soft meat helmed with rich, collagen goodness, layered with thick, crispy skin. All in one mouthful. How to not love?
Thai Style Chili Lime Steamed Fish with Lala RM68
The plus point of steaming fish and lala together – you have more umami sweetness of seafood released into the sauce. Throw in liberal amount of finely chopped garlic, chilli, squeezes of lime juice, spicy sourness come through, reminding us the popular Thai steamed fish.
Brown Crab with Peanut Butter Sauce RM108/KG
Brown Crab, or bread crab when translated directly from its Chinese name 麵包蟹,has been getting a lot of attention recently. From original louisiana boil to steamboat hot pot, you can now trace them down easily at different eateries.
Some said that meat of brown crabs aren’t good as mud crab, but what makes the crab noteworthy would probably be the vibrant, orange crab roe hidden beneath the shell of the crab. Quite true though, as we managed to scoop out much more roe than a normal crab has. Afterall, brown crab doesn’t go famous for no reason.
Deep Fried Mantao RM4.50/roll
While Summerkid was happily “stealing” all the roe of brown crab and our friends yelling “Enough, you are having too much roe! High colestrol! Share me some.”, what’s interest Summergirl more was the deep fried man tou. Fluffy bun, jacketed with crispy outer layer laced with pipping hot, freshly deep fried aroma. You are more than welcome to continue to fight for your precious roe, just don’t grab my man tou. *Dip one with sauce, ate another two, then skip away with the whole plate. Grin. *
Coffee Cheese Crab RM88/ 2 pieces of XL Size (~1KG), RM136/ 2 pieces of XXL (~1.4KG)
Put aside Crab Generation reasonably priced fresh, meaty crab, the different varieties of sauce makes the highlight too. We tested Coffee Cheese Crab and Peanut Butter Sauce Crab, personally love the former. More flavourful, sticky sweet, a little bit toasted-like burnt flavour of coffee, completed with cheese powder for savoury touch. White Pepper Crab, Buttered Cheese Crab, Sweet Corn Crab, Milky Salt Egg Crab are few other interesting options on Crab Generation menu list.
Stir Fried Mixed Mushrooms with Broccoli RM20/Small, RM30/big
In short, if you are staying within Cheras neighbourhood, Crab Generation is must-visit restaurant for seafood feast. Else, do plan for a dinner here, it worth the extra miles.
