Tossed Cafe at Jaya Shopping Centre, Section 14 PJ was a surprised encounter to us, as we seldom ventured into restaurants & cafes around this area. This little, cozy charming place gave us a first impression that coffee and Western fares will take the limelight. However, when we flipped through Tossed menu, we realized the kitchen churns out a balanced varieties of both Asian and Western cuisine, all made with TLC (Tender. Loving. Care).
We especially love their Laksa Johor, a speciality from the Southern state of Peninsular Malaysia. Compared to Sarawak Laksa, Nyonya Laksa, or Penang Laksa, Laksa Johor is not as commercially found in Klang Valley, not even to mention a good one. Glad to find that Tossed has it, more over, a delicious version.
Their Laksa Johor is prepared using family recipes inherited for generations, laborious process but Tossed has no compromise in skipping any step. Ground “ikan parang” is the main ingredient, together with spices and herbs to form a thick broth, drenched over spaghetti, topped with vegetables and a spoonful of homemade sambal. Yeap, Johor Laksa is a local dish, with influence from the West. Not soupy as Assam Laksa, heaped with fish sweetness, mild spiciness, a touch of sourness. Like a bolognese pasta replaces with traditional Malay style flavourful sauce.
Tossed! Signature Wings RM12.90
If you liked Korean Chicken Wings, you will enjoy this too. Juicy meat thickly coated with crispy deep fried skin, further rubbed with a layer of spicy-sweet house speciality sauce, garnished with sesame seeds.
Home-style Nasi Lemak RM16.90
Another main course that Tossed! prides at. Extra aromatic coconut rice, served with prawn sambal, deep fried anchovies and peanuts, halved boiled eggs, and fried chicken. The prawn sambal is a clear winner, not towards tongue-numbing but still addictive for its fiery hot chilli sambal, blended with faint hint of sweetness.
Spicy Prawns Aglio-Olio RM18.90
Tossed! whips up good bowls of pasta too, ranging from Salmone (salmon infused in creamy tomato sauce pasta) to Basil Pesto (chicken fillet in creamy pesto with pine nuts), Spicy Prawns Aglio-olio (prawns in garlic infuse olive oil base pasta), Seafood Marinara Pasta, Calabrese Pesto (Chicken fillet served in tomato & herbs based pesto), just to name a few.
Tossed! Lamb Salad RM19.90
Patrons who want light yet nutritious meal can go Tossed! Apple & Chicken Salad, Tossed! Signature Fruit Salad or Lamb Salad. Apple & Chicken Salad is our favourite, but Lamb Salad is noteworthy for their juicy boneless meat from leg of lamb, marinated in Mediterranean style spices.
Sticky Date Cake RM15
End the meal with Tossed! desserts, and Sticky Date Cake is the musty try. Made from the finest red dates, the cake is so creamy and moist, one of the best Sticky Date Cake we’ve ever tried. Vanilla bean ice cream that serves along calls for quality too, imported from US.
In sum, Tossed! Cafe JSC is a great place for quick lunch, leisure dinner, friends gathering and even for event function. Come for a bowl of Laksa Johor, stay for a piece of Sticky Date Cake and coffee.
