Raku Pizza at SS15, Subang Jaya makes way for pizza lovers to customize their own pizza from different pizza base, cheese, sauces and toppings. Clearly, another new cafe with DIY concept for us after Okonomi Make Your Own Sushi at Publika Solaris Dutamas?, and The Counter Build Your Own Burger at Pavillion KL.
Located within SS15 area (*next to Mcdonald’s) surrounded by universities, neighbourhood and shoplots, Raku Pizza takes on price advantage for their food, keeping this “sensitive tag” as reasonable as possible. Pizza, donburi and udon here are pocket-friendly for students, at the same time creative, fun and delicious enough to please.
Raku Pizza menu covers mainly Japanese pizza, with three pages of Japanese don, udon and side dishes for diners with different tastebud. 3 pizza base, 4 sauces, 22 toppings with cheese, create your own favourite, and let the kitchen team to bake for you.
Step 1: Choose from herbs, charcoal or plain pizza dough, a standard size of 8.5″.
Step 2: Get your sauce miso, teriyaki, wasabi mayonaise and Japanese curry.
Step 3: Pick the ingredients you wish to top on your pizza – soft shell crab, ebi katsu, beef pepperoni, karaage chicken, extra cheese, chicken ham, tuna, grill chicken, chicken sausages, crab stick, onsen tamago, boiled potato, bonito flakes, mushroom, pineapple, sweet corn, sweet onion, mentai mayonaise, wasbi mayonnaise, Japanese mayonnaise, okonomi sauce and shredded seaweed.
We tried out charcoal base pizza spreaded with wasabi mayonaise sauce, then piled up ebi katsu, chicken ham, chicken sausages, mushroom, extra cheese, shredded seaweed and onsen tamago. A greedy combination but the outcome wasn’t too bad, with room of improvement. Should have added more cheese, and eliminate the onsen tamago for better flavours. Despite so, we enjoy the process of deciding our topping, and the waiting time before we could tuck in the pizza built in our own style.
Raku Pizza Signature Pizza Sakurajima Lave RM12.90
In case you prefer the Raku Pizza team to decide for you, then go for Raku Signature Pizzas classified into ?four seasons name – Haru 春, Natsu夏, Ari 秋, and Fuyu冬, which distinguishes the sauce type used in the pizza under this “season”.
Sakurajima Lava from Haru section is the restaurant’s best seller, putting together Teriyaki sauce, cheese, grill chicken, sweet onions, onsen tamago, Japanese mayo and shredded seaweed over a charcoal base sauce. Suggested to spread the Onsen tamgo all over the pizza for better flavours.
Raku Pizza Signature Pizza O Samurai RM12.90
Our favourite goes to O Samurai Japanese pizza from Aki season. Miso sauce with plain dough, and cheese, karaage chicken, sweet onions, okonomi sauce, Japanese mayo, bonito flakes and shredded seaweed. Creamy, flavours loaded but well-balanced overall.
Wafu Curry Prawn Katsu Udon RM13.90
A filling portion of udon heaped with housemade Japanese curry, bouncy prawns jacketed with golden brown, crispy panko bread crumbs layer.
Tama-Toji Chicken Katsu Don RM11.90/medium, RM14.90/large
Here comes the comfort food- soft, juicy egg and onions placed over a bed of rice, deeply flavoured with Raku Pizza speciality savoury-sweet sauce. Served with crispy fried chicken fillet for a more meaty meal.
