Huckleberry Food & Fare at Plaza Damansara, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur (Same row with Bandits Coffee Bar) is our new love-hate bakery cafe. Love it because Huckleberry KL is an incredibly nice place for great coffee, bread, cakes, breakfast platter, etc.. Hate it because the cafe is always full house especially during weekends. We only managed to secure a seat after dropping by for two times. TIPS: Visit early, preferably before 10AM to avoid crowd. Else, be ready to see a beeline in the cafe.
Helmed by the enthusiastic team behind Mezze Restaurant at Medan Damansara, diners can pretty much rest assured that food and beverage in Huckleberry Food & Fare will be promising. What’s more, the bakery section is super-head by Chef Christophe Gros, the master baker cum bakery consultant who has more than 20 years of experience.
Taking on the tagline “…there ain’t nothing in the world so good when it’s cooked right”, an inspiring sentence from the novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain, Huckleberry KL strives to ensure all wholesome treats serve to customers are align with the quote. And so, that’s also how the bakery name -Huckleberry Food & Fare comes from.
Artisan breads are no doubt highlights in Huckleberry Food & Fare. Enjoy from multigrains to rye, baguette, wholemeal, brioche, Farmer’s bread, Huckleberry Miche Sourdough, proudly made from time-honoured recipes using purest ingredients and techniques. The cafe bakes more than 20 types of breads a day, fresh from the oven daily, nutritious, 100% natural.
Apart from bakery goodness from front counter, Huckleberry KL menu also sums up delicious choices suitable for breakfast, brunch, lunch or merely for light teatime. Expect popular selections during breakfast hours, ranging from Egg Benedict, Huckleberry Granula, Shakshuka Tunisan Style Baked eggs, Free-range Eggs with Multigrain Breads, Huckleberry Ham & Cheese Omelette to classic comfort food with a twist such as Brioche French Toast with Vanilla Custard, Chilli Cheese Toast with Fried Egg and Huckleberry Kimchi Omelette.
Speciality Sandwiches (after 11AM) are worth checking out, layering interesting fillings such as creamy artichoke, spinach & parmesan cheese; vegetarian burger patty made from brown rice, black beans, sweet potatoes, walnuts; grilled turkey ham & cheese with homemade raw honey mustard dressing within toasted bread, brioche or buns that matched well. Pasta, lasagna, soup are available too, from 11AM till kitchen closed.
Couple of Eggs RM8.90
We were there early and not so into heavy breakfast, hence Summerkid picked up Couple of Eggs – a basic, simple combination of scrambled egg (you can also choose poached egg or fried egg) and freshly baked Farmer’s bread from Breakfast Menu (7.30AM -11.30AM) while Summergirl tried out Almond Croissant, add on with Cinnamon Roll and French Toast (must-try!) later.
Cinnamon Roll RM4.90
Cinnamon Roll is highly recommended. Love the multi-layers that deliver lots of chews, while the top section places a crusty texture contrast. Pleasantly mingled with cinnamon aroma, balanced through sweetness from sugar sprinkled over.
Almond Croissant RM7.90
Huckleberry KL Almond Croissant is so good. Doughy, buttery but not oily, further enveloped with nutty sweetness from the filling. There are more artisan breads, loaves and danishes we wish to try. In fact, all of them. Apple Turnover, Chicken Curry Puff, Multigrain Roll, Pain Au Valrhona Chocolat, Chocolate Brioche…we’ll surely back for more in future visits.
Banana French Toast RM24.90
Banana French Toast is one of the creations Huckleberry Food & Fares prides at. Thick slice of brioche dipped in rich vanilla custard, scented with nutmeg and cinnamon, carefully cooked in butter. Topped with bananas, toasted walnuts and house-made apple syrup (or raw honey).
Physically, Huckleberry Brioche French Toast looks similar to French Toast in many other cafes in KL and PJ, but taste wise, it is totally different. You’ll know once you sink your teeth on it. So soft, pillow-y, heaped with delicate milkiness. If you felt RM24.90 is expensive, think twice. The quality, precise mix of ingredients, temperature, fermentation, each and every parameter is well-taken care of to get the perfect end result. It’s worth every penny you pay for.
Mocha RM10.90/ Cappuccino RM9.90
Of course, coffee is a must. Huckleberry KL uses signature Sumatran Gayo blend, extracted from Synesso Cyncra coffee machine. Non-coffee drinkers can also look for chocolate drinks, tea, smoothies, fresh juices, floats from the beverage menu.
Too full to try out any dessert. Coffee Marsh Eclair, Espresso Tart, Carrot Pecan Cake, Black Forest Cake, Cheese Cake, Triple Chocolate Cupcake, Apple Pie Crumble, Fruit tart….all seems delectable. Do visit Huckleberry Food & Fare to find your favourite desserts when you are around Damansara Heights KL.
