Anchoas del mediterraneo RM4.50/unit
Medditerranean anchovies steeped in olive oil, garnished with parsley and garlic. Slimmy, good to eat even just on its own.
While waiting for our mains to arrive, we had a plate of Jamon Bellota iberico ham, putting together paper thin cry cured ham with “pa amb tomaquet” specially made by chef. “pa amb tomaquet” is actually a crusty bread grilled in Jasper smoky oven, lightly smothered with tomato and garlic.
Get a piece of “pa amb tomaquet”, drop a few drips of olive on it, then place one or two slices of cured ham sourced from one of the best quality native Iberian black pig. Flavourful, smoky, salty, crispy, sweet tomato-ish.
A healthy mix of salad combining onion, apple, tomato, blue cheese and grape dressing with honey and nuts vinaigrette. Seems to be the most pretty dish in Ohla Tapas. Dreamy, colourful.
Foe, huevi 62 y pure de patata trufado RM48.00
One of the best foie gras we have ever tasted in KL. Perfectly pan seared to slightly charred at the surface for a pleasant charred, Ohla Tapas Foie Gras is encapsulated with delicate richness, juiciness and buttery within, melt-in-the-mouth. Creaminess added with 62 degree egg and truffle potato puree.
Arroz negro con all i oli de rustido RM42.00
A plateful of Mediterranean black beauty with “all i oli” – squid ink rice deeply infused with umami sweetness of seafood till the grain. Flavouful, salty, but addictive. If you found it rather sodium loaded, no, it is not because of salt, there is no salt added to the dish at all. The savouriness is imparted from the flavours of seafood itself during cooking.
Mediterranean homemade cooked grilled octopus with potato and Pimenton de la Vera
Delicious, bouncy grilled octopus packed with juiciness in every bite, oozing the most original sweetness of this seafood goodness. Juices released from the octopus gracefully mixed into the creamy potato puree, adding pleasing umami sensation.
Definitely the must order in Ohla Tapas. A small serving of comforting confit Spanish cod fish loin served in organic chick peas pan fried with Burgos black sausage. The cod fish itself was buttery smooth, flaky, perfectly cooked to medium firmness.
Spanish suckling lamb with rosemary and milk, reduced with rocket and cardamom sauce. Minimal in gaminess, perfectly locked with tenderness that we once doubted if we were tucking in lamb. Sooo delicious.
Cochinillo iberico a baja temperatura con verduras RM38.50
Slow cook iberico suckling pig with vegetables in Ohla Tapas is not shadowed either, equally good as the suckling lamb (or better as we are real fan of suckling pig). Very crispy skin, layered with a balanced layer of fat and lean meat beneath. Amazing texture. One bite and we were sold. Hands down.
Cheese lovers will rejoice with premium selection of cheese that Ohla Tapas has to offer in their menu. Savour few types of Spanich cheeses in one go, pair them with apple, quince and walnut.
End the meal with one of the few desserts in Ohla Tapas- a set of caramelized banana with brandy, banana ice cream and white chocolate candies.
