Established in the year of 1965, Hong Kong Hee Kee started humbly in Causeway Bay Typhon Shelter 銅鑼灣避風塘 by the owner Uncle Hee himself. Their famous fried crab is better known as Causeway Bay Under Bridge Crab (銅鑼灣天橋底避風塘炒蟹), because the fried crab location is under Canal Road Flyover. Hee Kee encountered various difficulties in his business but this never stopped him from moving forwards to create better name for his signature fried crab and finally, the brand successfully opened their first restaurant in 1997, at Jaffe Road, Wan Chai.
Hee Kee Typhon Shelter Style Fried Crab 喜記避風塘炒蟹 received good feedback from many patrons in Hong Kong, as well as diners from China and South East Asia. The brand continues to develop with quality and by now, Hee Kee Restaurant has total 9 outlets in Hong Kong and mainland China.
There are three signature dishes in Hee Kee Restaurant, namely Hee Kee Authentic Fried Crab 喜記正宗炒蟹，Chilli Salt Prawn 椒鹽富貴蝦 and Stir Fried Clams with Black Bean Sauce 豉椒炒蜆. We tried out their evergreen Hee Kee Fried Crab, which features fresh, meaty crab imported from Vietnam stir fried with liberal amount of garlic and chilli for addictive, spicy kick.
After enjoying the juicy, flavourful crab, do not throw away leftover chilli garlic condiments. Keep them and tossed with white rice or noodles at any time for lunch, teatime dinner or supper. The spicy, garlicky flavours delivers a sharp taste that liven up your noodles and rice. We found it good to stir fried with vegetables, shrimps and minced meat too.
