Soprano’s Italian-German Restaurant & Piano Bar at Kelab Newcom, Jalan Klang Lama Kuala Lumpur started to churn out delicious Italian and German food not so long ago, definitely a well-hidden restaurant that deserves more attention. Located above Chong Heng Chinese Seafood Restaurant中興海鮮飯店,Soprano’s can be spotted from the main road. In case you are not familiar with the area, just look for Kelab Newcom building, as Soprano’s is right inside the club.
Differ from many other Italian and German Restaurant in KL, Soprano’s houses a very spacious area that can cater up to 200 pax at one time, making it suitable for events, functions, wedding, parties, and any other gathering. There is also a huge stage, hence you can always get a live band or emcee for your functions.
On normal Monday to Saturday, Soprano’s Italian-German Restaurant & Piano Bar has talented live band on stage from 9.30PM till late. So it is advisable to arrive around 9PM, so that you can enjoy your meal while accompanied by sweet songs.
Blue Marine Cocktail RM26
We sampled few dishes from Soprano’s menu, and have to say that all lived up to our expectation. Started with Blue Marine Cocktail, an eye-appealing starter that has fresh, bouncy saute prawns tossed in creamy Aurora sauce, served over Blue Marine Ice.
Homemade Bread
We love their bread, homemade, freshly baked. The long, slim breadstick rolled with cured ham is nice to munch on- airy crunchiness with smoky, savoury goodness from meat. It is currently not available on the menu, but chef may pair with some special dishes in future.
Chargrilled King Tiger Prawn RM42.00
One of the must-have in Soprano’s. Two huge tiger prawns, halved and chargrilled over flames to result in pleasant charred flavours, locking with umami sweetness from prawns. Dressed with Lemon Butter Caper Sauce dressed, lending appetizing, tangy sensation. Two prawns are clearly not enough, we hope to have six in one plate.
Linguine al Cartoccio RM32.00
Soprano’s serves very decent pasta, much better than we expect. Our linguine seafood pasta is brimming with salmon chunks, squid, mussels and prawns. The centerstage however, goes to the pasta, where very strand of the linguine is nicely coat with cherry tomato sauce mixed with garlic and Italian herbs, light but packed with natural good flavours of fresh ingredients. Not overloaded with tomato sauce which happened in certain restaurants, which makes the pasta goes too cloying and mushy.
Bauernwurst RM39.00
Since Saprano’s is also a German restaurant, customers will be able to trace down German delicacies such as Bauerwurst, Nurnberg, Knoblauchwurste German sausages, pork knuckles, BBQ pork ribs, roasted pork belly, drunken German chicken, etc.. Ideal for sharing.
Agnello Arrosto all Trapanese RM48.00
Char-grilled lamb chops served with smashed potatoes, seasonal grilled veggies, and choice of black pepper, mushroom and Bearnaise sauce. We highly recommended diners to replace mashed potatoes with Tiroler Knödel, a type of traditional German dish that the chef proudly claims that you will not find anywhere else in KL and Klang Valley. It is categorized in ‘boiled dumpling’ section (but doesn’t look nor taste like our Asian dumplings). On the contrary, it appears in scone like texture, but harder, crumbly, chewy with tinge of saltiness from ham bits.
Imperiale RM32.00
Pizza is also not to be missed here, great for diners who come in group. Soprano’s highly recommended their signature Imperiale pizza, which is also the best seller. Tomato sauce base, topped with smoked bacon, mushrooms, black olives, red and yellow bell peppers, generously covered with mozzarella and emmental cheese, further garnished with saute brown onions, olive oil and oregano for flavourful finish.
Cassata Siciliana Gelato RM16.00
End the meal with Soprano’s sweet and freshing homemade Cassata Siciliana Gelato dessert, layering vanilla and pistachio ice cream with fresh chopped pistachio nuts and fruits, laced with fresh strawberry sauce.
In short, Soprano’s is a good place for family, friends and couple dine in. We are yet to try out their BBQ pork ribs and pork knuckle in future.
