Menya Kamikaze occupies a small shop in 1 Mont Kiara Plaza, humbly serving one of the best Japanese Tonkotsu ramen in Kuala Lumpur. Located beside Sushi Zanmai, same floor with Kodawari Menya Udon & Tempura, Menya Kamikaze can be easily spotted as you take the escalator to L1, and turn left.
Prides as an independent ramen brand, Menya Kamikaze only has one main outlet currently. Hence there is better focus from the kitchen to churn out highest quality of Tonkotsu ramen for all diners. The restaurant can sit about 30 pax at one time, so you may need to queue for a while during lunch hour; but for our visit during a weekday dinner, glad that it wasn’t full house and we were seated immediately.
Spicy Curry Ajitama Ramen RM24.00
Browsing through the menu of Menya Kamikaze, we came across various ramen broth, starting from Original Pork Soup (white白), followed by Black Garlic (Black黑), Spicy (Aka赤), Curry (Ki黃), Basil (Midori 綠), Miso (Miso味噌), Black Garlic Spicy(Kuro + Aka黑赤), Spicy Curry (Aka + Ki 赤黃)and Thunder Spicy ( Thunder雷) that add more flavours to the pork soup. Tokyo Soy Sauce Ramen, Tsukumen and few rice choices are available too.
Curry Ajitama Ramen RM23.00
We tried out six flavours, and love ramen with Black Garlic, Black Garlic Spicy and Original Pork soup base the most. For each flavour, diners can have either Ramen, Ajitama Ramen, or Chasu Ramen, where:
1) Ramen /From RM20
Steamed Pork Belly 1 pcs, steamed Pork Shoulder 1 pcs, Spring Onion
2) Ajitama Ramen /From RM23.00
Steamed Pork Belly 1 pcs, steamed Pork Shoulder 1 pcs, Egg 1pcs, Spring Onion
3)Chasu Ramen /From RM26.00
Steamed Pork Belly 2 pcs, steamed Pork Shoulder 1 pcs, Egg 1pcs, Spring Onion
Original Pork Soup Ajitama Ramen RM23.00
Each bowl of pork bone soup in Menya Kamikaze is richly gathered with sweetness and gelatine goodness of pork, thanks to the long boiling time of 20 hours. End result is thick, cloudy white, yet not cloying. Suggest to begin with Original Pork Soup to celebrate the most authentic taste.
Black Garlic Pork Soup Ajitama Ramen RM23.00
Black Garlic Pork Soup looks unappealing due to the dark appearance, but that is the Black colour that turns the entire soup into a more aromatic, flavours packed ramen.
If you like Black Garlic Ramen, and want a touch of spicy kick, go for Black Garlic Spicy Ramen. Richness will be toned down slightly, while very mild spiciness clocking in.
Basil Pork Soup Ajitama Ramen RM23.00
Summergirl likes Menya Kamikaze Basil Pork Soup Ramen, and Summerkid doesn’t. It tastes a little vegetal, adding subtle anise-like herb flavour that calls for a contrast to the savoury rich pork broth. Won’t be a problem for diners who love vegetable, and herbs & spices.
And not to forget here in Menya Kamikaze, is their steamed pork belly which can almost steal the crown of their pork broth. Menya Kamikaze pork belly is beautifully steamed – balanced layer of lean and fat meat contributing mellow soft, extra tender texture with a sweet aftertaste. One bite and we are sold. Sooooo good~~
Comments: Pork soup in Menya Kamikaze is decent, but we truly love their steamed pork belly over the soup. Service is good, quick and fast. Gyoza is not available currently due to technical issue on the gyoza making machine imported from Japan. Hope to get a taste on their gyoza in our future visit. And of course, more steamed pork belly!!
