About 10 minutes drive from the town of Hua Hin, lays a small, charming independent building named Plearnwan Eco Vintage Village, another must-visit attraction in Hua Hin.
Located along Petchkasem Road between Soi 38 and 40, near to Hua Hin Klai Kung Vol Palace, Plearnwan can be reached by local buses, taxi, or Song-Thaews. Admission is FREE, and the opening time is from 9AM-9PM(Sun-Thurs), 8AM-11PM (Fri-Sat).
The whole Plearnwan is not big. For leisure sightseeing, it takes about an hour. If you loved taking photos and enjoyed adorable, antique ornaments, spare two hours for this tourist attraction.
The name “Plearnwan” is a combination of “Play & Learn” in English, together with Thai word “Wan” which means yesterday. The entire design and objective of Plearnwan live up to its name, where the village strives to provide visitors with a place to play out the lifestyle of 50’s-60’s while appreciating the beauty of the culture, arts, history and ritual in the past.
Stepping into this eco building make us feel like going back to the good olden days within modern contemporary- Manmade meadow stretching out in the middle as walking path, surrounded by old-fashioned shop houses built from wood and zinc to replicate reminiscence of Thai-Chinese neighbourhoods atmosphere.
Homemade ice-cream, classic coffee, childhood toys, candies, souvenirs, photo booths, guesthouse, shaved ice, antique accessories, street snack, Thai noodles, clothes, mini games, etc., there is always something for everyone in Plearn Wan Hua Hin.
Take the wooden staircases that lead you to the first-floor, where you can continue to shop for retro merchandise, nibble on traditional snacks or lean on the wooden deck railing to admire the vintage charm.
Bought some meatball-shape snack from a kiosk at second floor. Deep fried to golden brown, we expected these round little balls to fill with flavourful minced meat beneath the crispy outer layer. Only to know that they were just rice ball further encased with sauces in different flavours such as Thai curry and Tom Yam. Good try anyway.
For visitors who wants heavier food, just grab a seat at those quaint shops and have Thai fish ball noodles, Thai noodles with stewed pork & egg, Phad Thai or any other popular, favourite delights.
In line with the awareness to preserve the environment, we were told that most tools and faculties in Plearnwan are built using Green Board, a type of wood substitute made from recycled UHT bozes. Certain packagings are biodegradable too. Thumbs up for their green initiative.
Apart from that, profits from various ventures at Plearnwan will be donated to disabled people, adding values for existance of Plearnwan in giving back to the community.
Plearnwan Hua Hin, a place which is more than just a tourist attraction. Their contribution to the less fortunate; core value in educating modern people on the importance to appreciate history; effort in building a eco-friendly tourist attraction; all these small actions sum up to huge meanings that deserve loud applause.
Do make a stop at Plearnwan when you visit Hua Hin! Eat, play, learn and enjoy!
