We visited Nana’s Green Tea Cafe at Mid Valley KL several times, and each time, we have to get into a queue before getting a seat, be it a weekday or weekend. Great food and beverage they have, but the limited space has always be the major issue for Nana’s debut outlet in Malaysia.
Summergirl, the forever-green-tea-lover jumps with joy when she comes to know that Nana’s Green Tea second outlet is now opened at One Utama Shopping Centre, Bandar Utama PJ. We dropped by for a visit last Monday, feeling great that we were urshered us to our seat immediately without any waiting needed.
Nana’s Green Tea at 1Utama Shopping Centre is much more larger, almost triple the size of Mid Valley’s Nana’s. Semi two storeys, spacious, occupying an extended area at Rainforest Lower Ground Floor, exactly in between Secret Recipe and Dontaku, opposite Memory Lane.
Apart from their evergreen signature sweet treats and delicious Japanese delicacies, Nana’s introduces a few new selections to their latest menu, offering more choices such as Terriyaki Chicken, Salmon Carpaccio; as well as monthly special delights which are worth craving for.
Shogayaki Chicken RM16.80
For November, Nana’s Green Tea highlights Shogayaki Chicken in mains, featuring stir-fried chicken with ginger sauce and shimeji mushrooms which reminds us the taste of home, thanks to the unique mixture of sweet, spicy flavour of ginger sauce that calls for a similarity with of our Chinese Stir-fry Soy-Ginger Chicken.
Kuri Mont Blanc Parfait RM19.80
Sweet treat wise, the cafe launches three desserts just for November, namely Kuri Mont Blanc Parfait, Kuri Shiratama Soft Cream Latte and Kuri Mont Blanc Hotcake. All infused with imported chestnut in conjunction with Chestnut season in Japan.
Kuri Shiratama Soft Cream Latte RM13.80
Original blended white bean paste and chestnut with milk, topped with soft serve vanilla ice cream and mochi. Milky at the first sip, cooling, notably healthy.
Hot version is available too, very mild and comforting. We agreed it is an ideal breakfast drink that supply energy throughout the long day.
Kuri Mont Blanc Hotcake RM16.80
Kuri Mont Blanc Hotcake is available only at 1Utama outlet. Stacks of freshly made, fluffy soft pancake with beautiful swirls of chestnut cream, further topped with sweet chestnut, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.
Mentaiko Salad Udon RM16.80
For long term menu, try out Mentaiko Salad Udon, a colourful bowl of healthy, vitamins-loaded cold udon noodles served with Mentaiko, broccoli, corn, tomato, leaf lettuce and mayonnaise in cold soup. Tossed everything well to enjoy the best flavour.
Salmon Carpaccio RM15.80
Nana’s Green Tea Cafe’s Salmon Carpaccio is worth every penny you pay for. Thick, buttery slice of fresh salmon seasoned with black sesame sauce, decorated with pea sprouts, capsicum, cucumber and tomato for a refreshing, juicy, crispy touch.
Chicken Teriyaki RM16.80
Chicken Teriyaki is one of the new dishes in Nana’s, having sauteed chicken fillet enriched with savoury sweet teriyaki sauce, garnished with sesame. Served with warm millet rice and sides of red leaf lettuce, broccoli, tomato and potato salad. Do not leave the potato salad untouched, it is more than just a side dish- creamy, texture added with potatoes bits, unexpectedly good.
Karaage Curry RM16.80
Chicken Karaage Curry Udon, Chicken Cutlet Curry rice and now, the Japanese curry section is added with Karaage Curry. Hearty portion, showcasing huge chunks of succulent chicken burst with juiciness once biting through, generously drenched in a bed of medium-spicy Japanese curry. Comes with warm millet rice.
Locomoco Hamburg RM20.80
One of the signature dishes in Nana’s. Diners can opt for chicken or beef patty, served with warm millet rice and “Homemade Tomato Locomoco Sauce”, and Japanese style poached egg.
Salmon Udon with Cream Sauce RM18.80
This cream base udon falls on lighter side, but at a balanced richness that makes it scores in overall, reducing unpleasant cloying feel. Nutrients added with salmon, broccoli, corn and dashes of black papper.
Matcha Kuromitsu Slushy RM9.80
While November monthly sweet special is the must try, other signature sweet treats are not forgotten too. Cold Matcha slushy is still good, icy and smooth, crowned with whipped cream, finished with drizzles of caramelized brown sugar syrup.
Hoji Shiratama Float RM14.80
Hoji latte with Hoji ice cream and mochi, simple but genuine in Hoji flavours.
Kinako Warabimochi RM14.80
Second time trying out Kinako Warabimochi, a type of sticky, chewy, jelly made from bracken starch, coat with powdery sweet toasted soybean.
Matcha “Nama Chocolate” Parfait RM19.80
The best seller in Nana’s Green Tea, also Summergirl’s favourite. Served in a tall, long glass, this artisan dessert starts with a layer of Kanten jelly and Matcha syrup at the bottom, further layered with soft serve vanilla ice cream, cereals, Matcha chocolate ganache, red bean paste, whipped cream and a Match syrup.
Of all ingredients, Summergirl loves the Matcha Nama Chocolate the most. Very dense and rich, slowly melts in the mouth, gradually releases pleasing aroma and bitterness of matcha into the palate. Awesome.
In short, we had a great visit at their 1Utama Shopping Centre’s outlet. We believe queue will still build up during weekends, but the waiting time will definitely shorter.
