“Just coffee and cake will be too mainstream. Coffee places are mushrooming in town, but there is something missing in this third-wave trend.” These questions have brought to the born of Underground Societe at Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, the third establishment run by the folks behind Coffee Societe at Publika Solaris Dutamas, and the famous Garage 51 Cafe at Bandar Sunway.
Tucked away within a long streches of car services centres, Underground Societe will soon becoming the most-sought-after cafe cum restaurant as the end of 2014 approaching. In case you have difficulties reaching, look for Garage 51 which is a stone’s throw away from Sunway University Collage. It is just one street behind Garage 51, next to AXM.
If you happened to be there at night, it should be easier, as Underground Societe may be the only shop with the lights on till midnight, seeing that it is the only restaurant along Jalan PJS 11/7 Bandar Sunway.
While Coffee Societe and Garage 51 are much coffee-oriented, Underground Societe Cafe, or abbreviated as US, strives to branch out further from being more than just a coffee place, highlighting all day casual dining with fine food, at the same time maintaining the core they are master at – coffee.

Hence, at Underground Societe, aside from usual black coffee, flat white, cappuccino, guests will come across alcohol-infused coffee such as Baileys Latte and Kahlua Latte from “White Coffee” section; Underground Coffee with Bailey’s from “Cocktail” section.

House pouring wine, red wine, white wine, champagne, beer and cocktails including Tequila Shot, White RUssian, Mojito, Margarita are available, which is also the “missing part” in most coffee places. Underground Societe plans to keep the alcohol list sufficient, but not overwhelm. Call it “Bar concept within a cafe”.
Nutella Latte RM12.00
For non-alcoholic drinkers, check out their best seller Nutella Latte, flavoured up with pleasant sweetness of Nutella. Chai Latte, Baby Cino, Hazelnut Hot Chocolate, Caramel Hot Chocolate, English Tea, Sodas and juices adds-on the beverage list.
Foodwise, there is no trace of ubiquitous American big breakfast, egg benedict, French toast, waffles or pancakes, but a more interesting selections of brunch/lunch served till 6PM, such as Scrambled Egg with US Tenderloin Minute Steak; Grilled Slipper Lobster Benedict; and Grilled Pacific Ocean Tuna Saku.
Grilled Atlantic Salmon with German Spaetzel, asparagus, thyme-boiled Quail Egg & Hollandaise RM26.00
The Grilled Atlantic Salmon comes flaky and meaty, sits on a bed of German Spaetzel tossed with shredded chicken ham, dressed with Hollandaise sauce, laced with asparagus and topped with thyme-boiled Quail Egg.
Salad, soup and pizza can be ordered all-day-long. As for their After Six menu, Underground Societe keeps the list within 10 choices currently, having steaks and pastas all exquisitely prepared with quality ingredients to suit discerning palate of diners.
Lobster Thermidor with Couscous RM99.00
How often you can savour a lobster in a small cafe with a cuppa of good coffee? Uh-huh, the concept of Underground Societe is easily distiguished from here. It is fine where you just want to have a cuppa of coffee, while your friends want a proper steak, and the rest may want to unwind with a glass of cocktail. True enough, Underground Societe comes to satisfy groups of people with different needs.
Grilled New Zealand Lamb Rack with Mint Crust, Gratin Potato, Beetroot, Asparagus, Broccoli Au Jus RM38.00
Portion may not be hearty, but taste and quality assured. Everything is beautifully presented, with a good pairing of colours and texture.
Underground Grenade RM28.00
Our long awaiting dessert, and the must-order in Underground Societe. One has to allocate 30 minutes of waiting time for this dessert, but it is all worth when you see this “white avalanche” being torched on the spot, watching flames to brown its exterior layer. It is rich, creamy and sweet, further amplifies with cooling mint flavour ice cream filling. Ideal for sharing, and remember to get your camera ready for the best shot of this flaming dessert.
Opening from 11am through 2am in the morning, daily, the operating hours are long enough for you to plan your visit, be it a morning coffee break, lunch gathering, dinner parties, or midnight cocktails. Drop by for some “underground” lifestyle! Enjoy, drink with US!
