The quiet lane of Jalan 17/56 in Section 17 is brimming with wonderful hidden eateries. First is the Little Heritage House, and a week later, we paid a visit to the restaurant next to it, The Gastro Project.
The Gastro Project’s name takes on the abbreviation of Gastronomic, which signifying the philosophy of the restaurant to bring their guests on a gastronomic journey to satisfy their palate.
The restaurant sports a bold interior, housing retro environment with a touch of modern contemporary. Checkered floor tiles, walls painted in maroon colour, wooden tables and chairs in dark brown series, artistic portrait with mischivous espression adding fun and chic to the whole ambience.
Mushroom Tart RM15
The meal started with Mushroom Tart, an unique appetizer that tasted almost like a cake, in savoury version. The “cake” was actually polenta, or fine cornmeal that draws a eggy, moist and gritty texture. A good marriage with the chopped caramalized mushrooms and onions, juicy and buttery; served over a bed of salad.
Japanese Style Salad RM20
A healthy salad of avocado, pomegranate, mixed salad leaves and toasted pine nuts with Japanese inspired sesame dressing. Tempura prawns lover can adds on with this ingredient at additional RM10.
TGP Mozzarella Salad RM20
TGP Mozzarella Salad, a salad that is named after the restaurant, clearly reflecting this is one of the signature dishes that Gastro Project want to highlight. Enjoy forking on Buffalo mozzarella, basil and tomatoes, with a light touch of zestiness from balsamic dressing.
Lamb Kebabs RM20
Minced lamb formed into sausage shape around skewer and grilled. Pleasing dish for lamb lovers, suggest to make a dip into the tangy pesto to minimize the gamey flavour.
Orrechiette RM28.00
Ear shape pasta cooked in creamy, cumin flavoured sauce with sun dried tomatoes, chicken sausage and home made meatballs, topped with cheese and baked. An extra rich and heavy dish that you should put it to sharing to avoid feeling cloying.
Fettuccine RM20
This tomato base pasta in The Gastro Project is more than just sourish and tomatoish. Cooked along with herbs and spices, the sauce lends a spicy aftertaste, which develops slowly in the palate. Topped over with grilled chicken breast.
The Moroccan RM32
Pizza here is unique in its own way, as you don’t get the trace of famous Smoked Salmon, Hawaiian Chicken, or Pepperoni Pizza on the pizza menu. What replacing is self creation like The Moroccan, a pizza topped over with home made minced lamb meatballs with mint, pine nuts and pomegranate.
The Indian RM28
As the name tells, The Indian is an Indian inspired pizza, having spicy chicken perratal with cucumber Raita, sliced red chillies and Paneer spread over the thin crust pizza, covers with generous amount of melting cheese.
Duck Confit RM48
Duck confit is another permanent addition to the restaurant decadent menu. Juicy, tender and flavourful, it goes well with the orange butter reduction, sided with grilld asparagus
Sirloin Steak 220g RM48
Just order the Sirloin Steak, if you couldn’t live without a well cooked piece of Australian Black Angus! Steak in The Gastro Project is not too bad to satisfy your palate.
Beef Pie RM28
If you are looking for a light but fulfilling meal, indulge in any of their pie. Beef pie is good, hearty and comforting, packed with delicious flavours of stewed beef and bell peppers cooked in spices, all enveloped within a flaky, buttery homemade shortcut pastry.
Stuffed chicken Mascarpone RM45
Stuffed Chicken Mascarpone is a new dish created by Chef Othman, more like an enhanced version of chicken Gordon Bleu. Chicken breast is stuffed with breacrumbs and mascarpone cheese, oven baked and drizzled with creamy thyme sauce. Served with sauteed with vegetables and roast potatoes
TSP Cheese Burger RM28
Juicy home made beef patty, cheese, pickles, and salad all graciously sandwich within two fluffy buns. Served with a side of crispy potato wedges.
Intriguing RM15
The combination of pumpkin and mango puree are a good marriage surprisingly. Place your dessert spoon to scoop from the top the bottom of the dessert, and enjoy the velvety smooth and creamy puree with a medium sweetness that dissolve almost instantly in the mouth.
Hmmmm RM15
Hmmmm, a cocktail with an interesting name. Made with fresh strawberries, brown sugar, midori, dark rum and almond to create a chilling, refreshing concoction.
