[UPDATE] Brussels Beer Cafe at Solaris Mont Kiara has closed down
At Brussels Beer Cafe, one can expect delicious Belgian cuisines that are unpretentiousness with good quality. You can always indulge in mouth watering Crispy Roasted Pork Knuckle, Belgium Foot Long Doggies, Moules Mariniere, and end the meal with homemade desserts such as Belgian Waffles with thick chocolate sauce. All these can be paired with wide range of draft beer including Hoegaarden, Leffe, Stella Artois, Franziskaner Weissbier, just to name a few.
We went for dinner at their outlet in Mont Kiara, which located few doors away from Mr. Dakgalbi and Caffe Bene. The restaurant is set in low hue yellow light, creating a comfortable, relaxing ambience. Walls are painted in red, adorned with framed paintings. Furnitures sum the restaurant into more country style, all in dark wooden colour, placed in bold contrast to the theme colour.
Brussels Meatballs RM13.80
The meal started with Brussels Meatballs, which was also our favourite that night. It features traditional pork meatballs braised in Leffe Brune sauce, onion, mix herbs, thickly coating every inch of the meatball to deliver a sweet, sourish touch. Served with a slice of rye bread.
Chicken Skewer RM19.80
While Brussels fares good for their pork dishes, other offerings are not shadowed too. The chicken skewers from poultry section was fantastic, having chunks of chicken steak skewered with capsicum. A flavorful munch that is brimming with smoky barbequed goodness, an alcoholic touch from the Stella Artois honey sauce smothered over the skewers.
Pork Belly RM30.80
This was definitely the love of Summerkid. The squared piece of braised pork belly was seated over a bed of special Franziskaner sauce that portrayed a mix of Western and Asian touch. The layer of fat was extra moist, gelatinuous, set off perfectly with the tenderly soft meat to create a balance in texture. So sinfully delicious.
Moules Mariniere
Brussels air flown mussels from European countries weekly to ensure freshest mussels to be served to diners. Hint: Thursday is the best day to visit for their Moules Mariniere, Moules Hoegarden, Moules Au Curry, or Moules Provencales. We had Moules Mariniere- mussels steamed in white wine, garlic, celery and onions, best eaten while hot. Put aside chilli sauce or mayo, dip your sided fries into the gravy which had gathered the sweet essence of mussels.
A plate of traditional Belgian dish having myriad of seafood and vegetables including butter fish, squid, mussels, prawns, young potatoes, leeks, and Hoegarden beer simmered in lemon cream. The sauce looked creamy, but was actually light and soothing with a pleasant hint of lemon zestiness that brought up the appetizing level. Served with toasted rye bread, this Seafood Wayerzooi can be filling.
Robust blend of chilli flakes, olive oil and garlic graciously sauteed into spaghetti, top over with crispy crackling good roasted pork. We found it flavourful, but the spiciness wasn’t distintive. According the chef, the spaghetti was served standard recipe to cater general taste bud, but you can always request for chilli flakes if you like your Aglio olio to have more kicks.
Full Portion Pork Knuckle RM70.80
Pork Knuckle- The signature dish in Brussels Beer bar. Our full portion pork knuckle came in a hearty portion, enough to feed 4 to 5 pax. It was served off bone and cut into tidy pieces, easier to tuck in and avoid messiness. While we were used to pork knuckle which was soft, with melt-in-mouth fat and crispy skin, Brussels served a slightly different version. Marinated with Cajun, mustard, salt and pepper, followed by baking of about 1.5 hours, the meat came out to be more chewy, with juiciness retained. More lean, less fatty. Fork into sauteed potatoes and mushroom served along, and drench your meat with brown sauce.
Orange Crepe Suzette RM11.80
We end the meal with Orange Crepe Suzette, a crepe base dessert. The homemade crepes was showered with orange rum marmalade, a rich warm sauce coupled with sourish bite of orange. So the scoop of ice cream clocks in just right to tone down the rich zing by adding sweet sensation over.
