4. Vintry
Vintry Ampang doesn’t draw a full house daily, but believe or not, it serves as one of the best places for relaxing, calm night out. Situated next to neighbourhood, the restaurant is quiet at night. What’s taking over is the soft background music, dim hue lights and tranquil ambience that portrays a strong contrast to the bustling KL city which is just miles away. Tempting pork dishes are consistently served up, with BBQ Pork Ribs as the signature. The pork ribs is first slow baked to lock the moisture and juiciness, followed by a short grill then glazed with BBQ sauce to result in a bountiful, glossy exterior with little charred surface. Check out the fluffy Roti Babi and crispy crackling Roasted Pork, Vintry does well for these local Chinese favourites too. Apart from pork, seafood or poultry choices are excellent. Their Tom Yam Seafood Pasta is maximized with fiery hot kick that is well coated into every strand of the spaghetti. No joke, it is spicy, but addictive, you will not want to stop. So good that it almost overshadow the porky ribs. Do remember to pair your meal with your choice of wine from the wine cellars, impressively stocked to the brim.

5. Yut Kee
Mosaic floor tiles, solid wooden chairs, marble tables, yellowish photos, old fashion stand fan, etc., every element in Yut Kee reflects an obsolete charm that is almost vanished in the modernized of this city. This coffee shop survives as one of the oldest eatery in KL, starting in 1928 and still running brisk business daily after passing down to third generations. Some claim that the food price doesn’t go parallel with the food quality, but they have their own winning points. Many flock to Yut Kee for Hainanese Pork Chop- deep fried pork chop drenched in thick brown gravy, a dish which is rarely found in KL nowadays. Roti Babi – minced pork and onion stuffed in bread and deep fried is also one of the top orders. Never leave Yut Kee without a serving of Roast Pork served with apple sauce, it sells like hot cakes. You will get hands down over the crispy skin that fits close to the succulent meat, slightly blushed in pinkish. Only 14 rolls available daily, usually sold off by noon. Even though good and bad comments come in, one thing that stands true is, Yut Kee is not the place to seek for delicate fine food. The most important is to appreciate the comfort, good old traditional taste that has remained for decades.
