Lots of dim sum shops are found mushrooming in KL and Klang Valley area, and we are glad that most dim sum shops we have ventured into serve decent dim sums. We discovered another dim sum shop recently, which is G-YiTang in Taipan, USJ.
G-YiTang serves Hong Kong style dim sum from morning till night, so it is not a problem if you were in USJ area and craving for dim sum at night. You know where to go. The whole dim sum shop isn’t spacious, focuses on simple interior with one side of the wall fully featured with their delicious dim sum fares.
Business was at brisk during our visit, but not overcrowded. Air conditioned, so diners can enjoy their dim sum comfortably without sweating over their back. Took a look on their menu, choices were extensive and reasonably priced, from RM4.00 to RM6.00. Be it steamed, baked, deep fried or stir fried, they have all.
Deep Fried Pork Ribs with Marmite Sauce
We started off with Marmite Spareribs, tender pieces of spare ribs thickly smothered in Marmite sauce and drizzle with toasted sesame. Well, this childhood favourite sauce never failed to create a magical flavour, the smoky saltiness make the whole dish awesome, so appetizing that we felt like calling for a bowl of rice.
Chives Dumpling with X.O. Sauce RM6.00
Continued with Chives Dumpling with X.O sauce, a dim sum that we rarely came across with. Soft and creamy chopped chives encased within semi transparent dumpling skin, topped over with crispy deep fried onions. Pleasant in both colours and taste, and bringing a shift from other dim sums which mostly cover only meat and shrimp. Recommended.
Shrimp Dumpling (Har Gau) RM4.80
Shrimp Dumpling with Scallop RM4.80
While the Har Gau is standard, try having Shrimp Dumpling with Scallop to add more umami flavour to your dim sum.
Juicy Dumpling (xiao long bao) RM6
Not the best, but still passable for their soup scores. Skin was subtle but a little too thick, gracefully enveloping with tongue-burning soup and minced meat. Took a small bite on the skin to allow the flavourful soup to flow out, sipped it clean and had the whole dumpling in one go. Flavour-some.
Fishball with Shrimp
Another steamed item in hearty portion, having fish meatball crowned over with fresh shrimp and showered with orange-ish gravy that promotes a sweet, spicy and zesty concoction.
Shrimp Dumpling with Angeluca Soup RM6.00
We enjoyed having these huge shrimp dumplings immersed in Angeluca soup, for it ads on a nourishing and tummy warming sip.
Baked items here are beautifully done, egg tart, Baked BBQ Pork Buns, Baked Pineapple Buns and BBQ Pork Puff didn’t disappoint us.
Baked BBQ Pork Bun RM4.80
We didn’t put much expectation on this Baked BBQ Pork Bun, as it looked too ordinary to us, and wasn’t the item we would order in a dim sum shop. One of our friends said it was really good so Summergirl took a munch on it. Indeed, it was so delicious. The soft, fluffy bun was brimming with juicy, flavorful char siew filling, a total different compared to that we initially thought of. We thought it would be dry and one dimensional in taste. Don’t judge a book by its cover huh.
Egg Tart RM4.80
Egg Tart got thumbs up for its very light, flaky and layering pastry nestled with with yellowish, creamy custard. Tuck in in one mouthful to enjoy a combination of airy crunchiness with custardy sensation.
Baked Pineapple Buns RM4.80
Modified version of Hong Kong Polo Pau, having custard filling wrapped within soft bun and crumbly biscuit cutely placed on top. Something cute and mini.
Deep Fried Sesame Balls RM4.50
A very ‘sesame’ snack for sesame lover. The sesame balls was fully covered with sesame from inside and at the outside. Crunchiness and chewiness loaded at the first bite, followed by aromatic sesame paste filling in semi liquid state.
Deep Fried Shrimp Roll
G-YiTang’s another way of serving Deep Fried Shrimp Roll. Instead of wrapping small prawns in spring rolls and deep fried, G-YiTang goes creative by rolling spring roll skin on one big prawn, deep fried and served beautifully in whole.
Shrimp Rice Roll with Egg
For Hong Kong Style Rice Rolls, G-YiTang goes creative by steaming the rice roll together with a layer of egg, hence leaving an eggy fragrance to the overall flavour. You may not find this in the current menu, because they are new in the list! Try asking for one!
Apart from the Rice Roll with egg, the usual BBQ Pork Rice Roll, Mixed Rice Roll and Shrimp Rice Rolls are available too. Doesn’t matter if the rice roll was too soft and fall short in smoothness, a shower of dark gravy managed to complement all these.
Deep Fried Yam Pastry RM5.00
Airy and crisp outer layer on creamy yam paste, complement with saucy meat filling.
Deep Fried Yam Pastry with Shrimp
Add some bouncy texture to your usual Deep Fried Yam Pastry with this Deep Fried Yam Pastry with Shrimp. A combination of taste from the ocean with humble earthy plant can be good, especially when it is deep fried.
