We have visited Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks countless time, never fails to like their Oyster Mee Sua and XXL Crispy Chicken. It is glad to know that they have now reached 10 years of milestones, and will continue to serve the best Taiwan street snack to their loyal customers.
In conjunction with their 10 years anniversary, Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack has launch a new street snack, Crispy Salt Pepper Mushroom which comes in 5 flavours- Original, Kimchi, Seaweed, Sour Cream and Wasabi. We like them original, so crispy and light with a touch of peppery kick, almost like crackers.
They have also made an improvement for Sweet Plum Potato Fries, a snack covered in crunchy and flavoursome light golden batter and dusted with plum powder. It used to be long and thin, but now every stick is bigger, hence softer and giving more flesh on the inside. Still crunchy of course!
While the Sweet Plum Potato Fries goes for a ‘makeover’, other choices remain with delicious flavour such as Handmade Oyster Mee Sua, one of the best sellers in Shilin, which is also our favourite. The bowl of noodles seems small, but it can be very filling. Drenched in thick brown gravy, the mee sua is slurpy smooth with generous topping of shreded chicken, oyster and corrianders. Always ask for a scoop of chilli paste to mix with your mee sua, and taste the different.
Seafood Tempura, a homemade seafood paste deep fried into golden brown, sprinkled with spice powder and served. Chewy with a spicy and peppery coating, we would say that the it tastes pretty close to our local favourite keropok lekor.
Crispy Egg Floss Crepe, another popular Taiwanese street snack. The crepe fares like our roti telur, just slightly firm in texture with a crisp edge. What makes it unique from our roti canai is the ingredients brimming within-the chicken floss; as well as the brown sauce topping over. All of these elements are simple but sum up to a chewy snack interlaying with sweet and savoury sensation within evert munch. Pop the whole piece into the mouth at one go to enjoy the burst of eggy fragrant, chewy texture.
For those who want to have a full meal, go for the Happy! Ricebox Set that has a bed of soft and fluffy short grain rice topped with XXL Crispy Chicken and cold tofu with chopped century egg. We don’t really fancy the cold tofu, but the rice with chicken, yes.
With more than 10 million pieces have been sold across the world, the XXL Crispy Chicken is no doubt the hottest choice in Shihlin. Extra crispy outside with juiciness oozing out from within as you pull them apart, so alluring that yo will not want to share.
