Ever since we had our Omakase style dinner in Mikan, it has becomes one of our recommended Japanese restaurants in KL and KV area. The food, the ambience as well the service there are all memorable. The restaurant in Maju Junctiowa Mall has now moved to Damansara Perdana, smaller premises, but the quality of food and service remained.
We had our dinner there last week, having a range of Japanese delicacies in a cozy, relax brand new ambience. Though we were not having Omakase this time, but the delicious good flavours of the food on menu continued to speak for themselves.
Wasabi Tomato (RM10.00)
Tossed with fresh herbs, onions, sesame and special wasabi dressing, this Vitamin-packed and tangy vegetable opens up the taste bud at the very beginning of our meal.Though named Wasabi Tomato, the piquancy of wasabi is very mild, with crisp flavour from the special dressing made in house.

Salmon Sashimi (RM26.00)
Salmon Belly Sashimi (RM32.00)
Our salmon treat in Mikan previously was a pleasant one, same goes to this time. Fresh, moist and buttery without much complains.

Salad greens, croutons, tomato, salad dressing, soba and Onsen being tossed together. The must-mentioned will be the soft, silky smooth Onsen that whip up the creaminess of the whole salad.
Creaminess is protruding, and for those who are afraid of the raw taste of egg, no worries as it is unapparent.
Dragon Roll (RM28.00)
Oishi Ebi tempura, crunchy cucumber and seaweed sheet within moist, soft sushi rice, rolled with tempura crunch at the outer layer and drizzle with creamy mayoinaise sauce. Mouthful of textures, plenty of satisfaction.

Volcano Roll (RM22.00)
Unagi based sushi roll that is rolled similarly as the dragon maki with tempura crunch, but layered over with creamy dressing and topped with fried shredded onion and fish flakes. Heavier and more playful flavours promoted, but equally satisfying.
Get a taste of the sea in Mikan too, everything is good, be it grilled, baked or deep fried. Take the Hotate Mentai Mayo for example, these perfectly baked big, succulent hotate overflowed with mentai sauce has awesome flavours. So creamy so succulent. Our favourite dish that night.
Smoky aside, the shrimps with little charred surface are bursting with juiciness and flavours. Sweetness comes in too, but saltiness is on the heavier side, hence an ideal dish to go with beer or sake. Recommended addictive dish for snacking.
Ebi Jaga (RM16.00)
Shrimp and cheese blanketed in batter and deep fried, a heavenly match of juiciness and creaminess. What we find note worthy is the garlic dressing that topped over, as the sauce incorporates a sharp and mild spicy taste that helps flavour up this fried item.

Ebi Pan – 3 Pieces (RM8.00)
More shrimps. Juiciness oozing out as we bite through the croquettes, with plump fresh shrimps marry really well with the pipping hot and crispy outer shell. Simple but develops a combination that is too delicious to miss out. We find that the chef handling well on all the shrimps, each of them in our shrimps dishes never fall short of freshness and juiciness. Double thumbs up.

Braised Pork Belly (RM28.00)
Braised Pork Belly, something for pork lovers. Sakura five flower meat(五花肉)braised for 5 to 6 hours, drizzled with savoury sauce and topped with ample of pork lard. Munching on good proportion of fat and lean meat , plus the crispy pork lard that add up the texture is such a satisfaction. Sinfully delicious.

Tonkatsu (RM22.00)
Our all time favourite “Western Style” Japanese food- Breaded pork cutlet deep fried into golden brown and topped with sweet savoury sauce. A little greasy but the pairing of fresh, crispy exterior with moist chewy meat are always wonderful.

We end the meal with Garlic Fried Rice, a very basic dish that combines fried rice, garlic and pork lard in one bowl. It has a mild garlicky taste, rendering the crispy texture and aroma of pork lard. Forget about wok hei, as it is all about going back to simple flavours.
Again, our dinner at Mikan was a pleasant one. Food quality continues to win. Do drop by for a meal there if you happened to be in this area.
