Pushing through the heavy semi-transparent glass door, we were welcomed with impressive dining area in Acme Bar & Coffee, the winning restaurant for Time Out KL’s Best New Restaurant 2012.
Classic patterned floor tiles with contemporary designed bar was first came into sight, followed by cushioned wooden chairs and tables lining up along the ceiling to floor french windows that allow ample of beautiful natural lights to flow through.
Acme Bar & Coffee’s walls are painted in black, ceiling was remarkably high hence making the whole area seems less confined. There’s another dining area at inner part, more spacious with wooden flooring, lots of vintage elements and decoration on shelves.
While the distinctive interior speaks for herself, the dining experience isn’t overshadowed too. We missed the breakfast/brunch menu, but luckily we still get to have their coffee.
Pulled Duck Sandwich (RM29.00)
The boy got himself pulled duck sandwich. Fresh, soft and chewy grilled opened face sandwich layered with tomato, pickled cucumber and topped with tender pulled ducks in thick, tangy orange BBQ sauce. A pleasing combination which is available seasonally in their 2013 April to May Spring Menu.
For coffee, we playfully asked for coffee art other than love and Rosetta. Felt grateful that the staff said ‘OK’ with a smile. But to our disappointment, the girl’s mocha still came with Rosetta on top.
Hot Mocha (RM13.00)
Very comfortable drink, but the foam was quite fat, with flavour overwhelmed by chocolate. A little more chocolaty she would park it under the list of hot chocolate.
Cappuccino (RM13.00)
Luckily the cappuccino came with pretty nice coffee art- a couple within a love. Smooth, aromatic with light bitterness. Decent but not the best.
We spent about two hours at Acme Bar & Coffee, laid back while enjoying our drinks. Everything was fine, until we asked for permission to take photos at first floor. Permission granted, but halfway taking photos, another staff came over and said that we are not allowed to take photos of that floor. So we asked: How about ground floor? The staff reluctantly answered: “Yes, but with the condition that those photos must have no customers inside.” Very funny requirement, as the restaurant was almost full at that time and they expected the photos to have only table and chairs with no customers? =.=
