Genting Sky Avenue 24-Hours Food Challenge: Read to See How Much Food We Ate
Few years back, for us, it was always McDonald’s, KFC or Marrybrown when come to meal time in Genting Highlands. When Sky Avenue Genting opened, dining options turned whole lot more exciting, with over hundreds of eateries span over the first and forth floor of the mall.
Din Tai Fung, Absolute Thai, Madam Kwans, DOME Cafe, Go Noodles, ACME Cafe, Kyochon 1991, Sushi Zanmai, Texas Chicken, Go Noodles, Boat Noodles, Gong Cha, Llao Llao, Tokyo Secret, Gindaco, and the list goes on. It is no longer about what to eat, but about how much we can eat everytime we are here, as most restaurants are promising.
This round, we challenge ourselves for a 24 hours food trail at Sky Avenue Genting, heartily indulge into various cuisines, snacks, coffee and desserts! Of course, with some shopping activities in between to burn calories, since Sky Avenue also houses a great selections of high street and independent brands.
1st Stop: Boat Noodles, for Boat Noodles
We began with Boat Noodles, a Thai restaurant that doesn’t need further introduction. Their Pathumthani, Ayutthaya, Prosperity Yum and Dry Boat Noodles are must-have, just 2 mouthfuls for each bowl but satisfyingly good. Food that are equally delicious on their menu are Thai Fried Chicken Wings, Pad Thai and Hot Steamy Sangkaya.
2nd Stop: Dalkomm Coffee, for Korean Desserts
Next, Dal.Komm Coffee. We aren’t a big fan of their Korean Bingsu but for their Caramel Honey Shibuya Toast, yes! Toast with crispy edges, fluffy center, laced with mellow honey sweetness, topped with smooth whipped cream. Not too sweet, and not cloying too. Best with their Honey Grapefruit, or Premium Chocola’de Shake. The chilly weather makes our cafe hopping at Dal.Komm better. Feels autumn in Korea. LOL.
3rd Stop: Nene Chicken, for Korean Fried Chicken
Third Stop, Nene Chicken. It has an outlet in Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya but we’re yet to check out. Since we saw it located just next to Dal.Komm Coffee Malaysia, plus we were still in the “autumn Korea” mood, we walked in and tried few of their Korean Chicken flavours – Original, Bulgogi and Freaking Hot. Love the Freaking Hot flavours, despite it is really spicy as it is named. The crispy skin coated with fiery hot sauces are just so addictive we couldn’t stop. Recommended for spicy food lovers.
4th Stop: Sushi Zanmai, Japanese Restaurant
Sushi Zanmai, the famous Japanese restaurant that are always seen with queue in most KL and PJ shopping malls. Happy that we were in luck during our visit at their outlet in Genting Sky Avenue. Business was good but not full house. Managed to get a seating for 6 pax without any wait.
Look at the spread we had! Atsuyaki Tamago, Mentaiko Spider Roll, Kani Avocado Salad, Yaki Soba, Ebi Don, Tempura Moriawase, Ebi Don, Yaki Soba, Salmon Mentai Roll, Sashimi Salad, Hodaka, Ebi Mentaiyaki, Kimuchi Seafood Nabe, Hanasaki Ika Tempura, Chicken Karaage Don, Gindara Teriyai, etc.. Ate them all!
Some Shopping in Between…
Pretty full after our lunch at Sushi Zanmai, like seriously.LOL. Went for 2-hours of shopping before continued with our food trail. Would have spent more time on shopping though for next time, because there’s so much to shop here!
Adidas, CHAPS, Charles & Keith, Esprit, G2000, Giordano, H&M, Padini, Skechers, Uniqlo, Swarovski, Pandora, Tomei, Timberland and more, all under one roof!
5th Stop: DC Comic Super Heroes Cafe, DC Theme Cafe
Walked pass DC Comic Super Heroes Cafe at Level 3 and decided to have a late teatime here. Always wanted to try this theme cafe and finally get to be surrounded by all these DC characters. DC fans can shop for their favourite merchandise here, at the same time indulge into dishes with DC-related presentation, like this burger set in Batman Box!
Ooo-so-adorable!
6th Stop: Royale Vietnam, authentic Vietnamese Delight
Dinner. At Royale Vietnam – the restaurant that serves authentic Vietnamese cuisine with chef’s creative twists.
The menu covers an extensive choices, from Pork Knuckle Noodles to Hue Style Beef Noodles, House Special Pho Bo, Seafood Mango Salad, Pomelo Salad with Dried Calamari, Grilled Sugarcane Prawn Meat, Saigon Fried Spring Rolls, Fresh Spring Rolls, Stewed Spare Pork Ribs, House Special BBQ Pork Ribs, Claypot Lemongrass Chilli Chicken, Deep Fried Quail with Glutinous Rice, Crispy Golden Chicken Pumpkin, House Special Beef Cubes on Hot Plate, Flaming Coconut Seafood Curry, Claypot Lemongrass Chili Calamari, Roayle Grilled Scallop with Garlic Topping.
Our favourite is Steamed Tiger Prawn with Coconut, a speciality dish in Royale Vietnam with “flamming” serving style. Get your camera ready for some photography-worthy shoots.
7th Stop: llaollao, Frozen Yogurt from Spain
Sweet treat after the all the savouries! Summergirl’s favourite llaollao with fruits toppings!
8th Stop: Tokyo Secret, try the New Syukurimu
Saw Tokyo Secret newly launched snack – Syukurimu. Couldn’t help and tried one too! It is crispy crushed almonds coated pastry in long stick shape, filled with creamy custard filling. Quite nice.
Take a rest. It’s movie time…
Went for movie at BONA Cinema after that. Had a good 2 hours watching Pacific Rim. Ticket price is RM20 per person, quite reasonable we would say. Click to check for the movie showtimes.
9th, 10th Stop: JR Curry House, Only Mee
More eating! Had Nasi Kandar at JR Curry House…
…and mini-size noodles at Only Mee. If you are craving for local delights, you might want to give this place a try.
11th Stop: DOME Cafe, Coffee to Start the Day
Began the day right with coffee from DOME Cafe! We reached at 10AM and had the whole place to ourselves! Nice right!
Big breakfast and egg benedict. Love the latter for its runny egg yolk, creamy Hollandaise sauce, fluffy bread – Yes, our kind of breakfast.
12th Stop: Dream Color, Happy Colours in Your Drink
Dream Colour, a beverage cafe that attracts the attention of many with their dreamy, colourful drinks. They are made from tea and fresh juices, some with milk.
13th Stop: BMS Organics, for Healthy Vegetarian Food
BMS Organics, a healthy stop. Their BMS Soy Milk Curry Laksa with Handmade Noodle is must-try here. Rich and flavourful, mildly spicy, using soy milk as a healthier substitute to coconut milk, yet equally noteworthy.
Shared a Grilled BMS Chef Burger and Nasi Lemak with friends too!
Let’s go for some indoor activities…
Our friends went for some indoor activities in Sky Avenue like Alive Museum, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, Jurassic Research Centre, and Jungle Gym after that. So we continue to discover more food, snacks to be exact while waiting for them.
14th Stop: Texas Chicken, for Crispy Fried Chicken
Texas Chicken is located in Jungle Gym, the Kid’s Adventure Playland at Level 4. So if you are feeling hungry after some fun time with your kids or loved ones here, delicious fried chicken is just few steps away.
15th Stop: Gindaco, for Japanse Takoyaki
First time trying Gindaco Takoyaki. Glad that we loved it.
16th Stop: Morganfield’s, for Finger-licking Good Pork Ribs
Went Morganfield’s for lunch. Last meal before leaving Genting Highlands. This restaurant is home for sticky pork ribs, so forget the calories and let the porky feast began! Hickory BBQ Spare Ribs, Garlicky BBQ Spare Ribs, Smoked BBQ Spare Ribs – get ’em all in Morganfield’s Ribs Sampler!
The set came together with grilled Herby Hog Sausage, Garden Salad, Grilled Corn on the Cob, Corn Bread and Crispy French Fries. Portion is huge, so share it. Ideal for 3-4 persons.
Hunt down a total of 16 outlets. Not too bad huh. Wish to check out more, with a bigger stomach the next time! Keep this as a guide, you may want to try them out, or eat more than us when in Sky Avenue. Not forgetting the shopping too!
