Cafe Black Ink No.6 quietly surfaces at Off Jalan Yap Kwan Seng Kuala Lumpur last month, humbly serving a short selection of brunch items and rice bowls from their one page menu. Nothing big hoo-ha for the decorations or extraordinary fancy food to create attention on social media but, this is the part we love most.
It is relaxing, little-hidden, quite a perfect spot for our weekend brunch without the noise and crowd. Small menu they have, but don’t judge. Big Brekkie, Egg Benedict, Breakfast Sandwich, Toastie, Yum Yum Bowl, Poke Bowl, Oyakodon and Butter Chicken Masala are nicely curated, well-worth a return. Not to forget, decent coffee for caffeine fix.
Let the photogenic front yard with wooden floorings, leaves crawling over trellises welcome you in. Browse through menu at the counter, made your order, pay, find your favourite seat and wait for food to be sent over shortly. Help yourself to plain water while waiting. Semi-self service like most coffee places.
Toastie RM16
Checked out Toastie – Toasted country loaf smothered with basil pesto sauce, decked up with baby spinach, sauteed mushroom, melted cheddar cheese and two sunny side eggs. Cafe Black In No.6 priced this at RM16, but this generous platter might cost you another additional RM10 in some other cafes.
Like how the melted cheese loaded on the sauteed mushroom. Rich and creamy but not cloying till the last bite. Goes surprisingly well with pesto, lovely texture contrast from crunchy at the edges, chewy centre bread. Sided with refreshing vinaigrette salad.
Yum Yum Bowl RM20
Summerkid’s Yum Yum Bowl is beyond expected. Tender slices of marinated ribeye steak takes the centre stage, still very good even after we took spent some time photograph it. Haha. But do have it while still hot for the best taste. Break the onsen egg, mixed with short grain rice, raddish yum yum sauce, pickled cucumber – Stamped for approval for this comfort food.
Cappuccino RM10 hot, RM11 cold
Volcano RM12
Beverage here covers classic white and black for the espresso-based – Long black, cappuccino, mocha, flat white, latte, dirty cold (guess it will look something like our favourite drink from Masa-san?). For specialty drinks, look for Volcano, Black Sesame Latte, Royal Milk Tea. Uji Matcha Latte, Chocolate and Fresh Cold Pressed Juice available too.
Volcano is something more gimmicky here. Espresso with cold milk, topped with over-flow fresh whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. A mix of creamy sweet and mild bitterness. Interesting try but we like their coffee more.
Expect this place will have more exposure in near future. Rice bowls are highly recommended. Friendly staffs. Parking is difficult so pray for your luck. The compound which shares with a sales gallery can accommodate about 4 cars at a time only, no parking charges so far.
