Rubberduck at Plaza Damas, this hidden gem first caught our attention with their excellent éclair, lemon meringue tart, madeleines, Felchlin Chocolate Mousse, pavlova and some other desserts. The place started with a small menu, quaint little space but they are doing really well throughout the 2 years. By now, the dining space has doubled, almost tripled if you were to include the al-fresco area.
Rubberduck menu too, has expanded to really impressive selections of breakfast (*8PM-12PM) and lunch (after 12PM), all written on a huge whiteboard behind the main counter. Choices available in both sweet and savoury, most items in cafe price, around RM20.
Visited on a Sunday brunch. Full house, probably the most happening brunch place in that area other than Warung Soho. Omelette with Salted Beef & Buttered Toast (RM18), Berries Smoothie Bowl (RM18), Chai Latte (RM10) and Cappuccino (RM10) – everything was alright, not exceptionally good but the nice environment managed to compensate this.
Berry Smoothie Bowl RM18
Smoothie Bowl, favourite of many on Rubberduck’s breakfast list. Colourful, healthy, and erm… photography-worthy. LOL. Pick from Sunshine (Banana, pineapple, mango, chia seeds, granola, coconut flakes), Berry (Mixed berries, flax seeds, ganola, coconut flakes), Avokiwi (Avocado, kiwi, banana, chia seeds, granola, coconut flakes). RM14 for cup (drink), RM18 for bowl (with toppings).
Omelette with Toast + Salted Beef RM18
Big breakfast seems too hearty for us, judging, so Omelette with Toast will do. Soft and fluffed exterior, encasing slightly liquid, runny egg at the center, generously filled with salted beef. Comfort food that even kids will love.
Other food option to go for breakfast in Rubberduck includes Breakfast Wrap, French Toast, Pancakes, Soft fried egg, congee; while for lunch, you may go for salad, fried rice, roast chicken leg, pan-fried butter fish, aglio-olio pasta, sandwiches, braised lamb shank and more.
Chai Latte RM10
If Chai Latte is your thing, just gives it a skip here and try it at The Forum KL, Desa Sri Hartamas. Rubberduck version is milky, but quite pale on the “Chai” taste.
Cappuccino RM10
Cappuccino for Summergirl’s caffeine-fix but personally, we feel that you can easily get better ones in other places, even from nearby cafes, for example – The Brew Culture.
Overall, the lively, cheerful dining scene in Rubberduck is probably their noteworthy point, apart from dessert. Haha. The ambience certainly makes our brunch moments here more enjoyable. But we’ll stick to just dessert in future visit.
