What to do in Cameron Highlands? This is the first question that came into our mind when we decided to go for a 2D1N trip in Cameron Highlands during CNY holidays. We’ve not been to this place for like, 10 years, or more, and not too sure how much it has changed. We are now back from there, with new things to discover, all-time-favourite activities remained. So you may want to keep this guide for your future visit.
1.Visit Cameron Valley by Bharat Tea Plantations, Tanah Rata
As you came up to Tanah Rata, Cameron Valley by Bharat Tea Plantation will be the first tea garden that greet you along the way. Panoramic view of lush greenery that cover – a scene that is enough to give you reasons to stop by and take some photos.
2.Visit Time Tunnel Museum, Brinchang
Get transported into the olden days with over hundreds of vintage collections in Time Tunnel Musuem, alongside with a gallery of historical Cameron Highlands and some insights of this place back in decades time.
3. Strawberry Teatime in Big Red Strawberry Farm, Brinchang
A great stop in Brinchang to have teatime. There’s a cafe within this farm, offering various strawberry-related food such as Waffles with Strawberry, Fresh Strawberry with Yogurt, Strawberry Cheese Cake, Strawberry Sundae, Strawberry Float, Strawberry Chocolate Fondue, etc.. Must visit if you loved strawberry.
4. Enjoy Street Food & Buy Vegetables at Brinchang Night Market
One of the very few things to do in Cameron Highland at night besides walking in the cold and have steamboat dinner. Haha. Brinchang Night Market is located in Brinchang town area, opposite to police station. Not as hipster as Taman Connaught Cheras Night Market. Vegetables, strawberry, honey are repeated in every few stalls. The noteworthy part will be the delicious, crispy outside chewy inside Deep Fried Sweet Potato Balls sold at RM6 for 15 pieces.
5. Enjoy Scenic View at BOH Tea Centre Sungai Palas, Tringkap
This will be our favourite attraction in Cameron Highlands. Breathtaking view with modern architecture perched on top of a hill, which is actually a building comprises of cafe, gallery, souvenir shop and tea factory. Definitely worth a visit but the path to reach is quite scary and dangerous.
6. Get Some Fun at 3D Museum, Nova Square, Kea Farm
Accidentally saw this 3D musuem which is located in the same building with Nova Resorts & Residences we stayed in. Considered the latest attraction in Cameron Highlands, opened in August 2015. Entrance fee is RM20 per adult. Opening time is 10AM-10PM, an advantage for tourists as you can still visit it at night after visiting other farms during day time.
7. Ferris Wheel Ride in Funfair, Kea Farm
Ideal place for family with kids. Can spend a half day here, have fun with mini Ferris Wheel ride and funfair games, then have lunch at either Old Town White Coffee, Teh Tarik Place, Josephien Eatery & Bar, Korean BBQ, Strawberry Cottage.
8. Feel Like in Japan with Hokkaido Lavender at Lavender Garden, Tringkap
We didn’t expect the crowd in Lavender Garden would start even before the opening time at 9AM. We reached around 8.40AM, visitors already started to queue at the ticket counter! Entrance fee is RM8, and you get to visit mini scale Hokkaido lavender, Mona Lavender, Taiwan Lavender and many other plants within the compound. There’s also 3D murals visitors can take photo with, and charming sunflower that you can pluck home by paying RM2 per stalk.
9. Visit Brinchang Morning Market for Fresh Produce
There are several morning markets to visit in Brinchang and Tanah Rata, we stopped by 2 of them, one near to Copthorne Hotel while another one near to a flower nursery we went to. You do not have to purposely look for one, as you will surely come across stalls selling sweet potato, broccoli, corns, carrot, strawberries and other fresh produce along the main road.
10. Buy Cheap Flowers, Cactus & Plants at Flower Nurseries
Walk in flower nurseries – Summerkid’s favourite. He stopped at more than 5 of them during the trip, having hard time on which pot of flowers to buy home because he loves all of them. LOL. In the end bought home 3 pots of flowers blooming in colourful pink, orange and red at only RM10. Boss said CNY specials. LOL.
11. Pluck Your Own Strawberry at Strawberry Farm
We remembered plucking strawberry on our own once, when we were very young. Wanted to try out again but sadly we were there on the 4th and 5th day of Chinese New Year and was told that strawberry were all finished plucked on the 1st & 2nd day of CNY. Hahaha.
12. Get Surrounded by Butterfly at Famous Butterfly Farm, Kea Farm
Entrance fee to Butterfly Farm is now RM7 per adult, RM4 per child. Get surrounded by butterflies in different species, colours and size!
13. Beat the Cold Weather with Pipping Hot Steamboat Dinner
Steamboat, must do when in Cameron Highlands. There are many steamboat restaurants beside the main road in Brinchang and Kea Farm. Some of the famous one will be Jin Jin Steamboat Western Restaurant, wan Kee Charcoal Steamboat, Fong Lum Restaurant, Cameron Organic Steamboat, and Mountain House Charcoal Steamboat. Nothing surprise in terms of taste but great to beat down the cold weather.
14. Buy Fresh Vegetables Direct from the Farm
Personally, on the price side, we feel that buying Cameron vegetables in KL markets and markets up hill doesn’t make much different. The only reason that make us feel like buying is because it is much fresher, direct from the farm! We got hydroponic grown salad vegetables from Big Red Strawberry Farm, only RM3 per packet.
15. Take A Break at Lata Iskandar Hutan Lipur Waterfall, Tapah-Ringlet
There are few popular waterfalls in Cameron Highlands, such as Thompson Waterfalls and Parit Falls. We wanted to visit Thompson Waterfalls, a destination that relates to Jim Thompson, Thai silk maker missing mystery. Accidentally passed through the junction so we stopped at another one, which is Lata Iskandar Hutan Lipur Waterfall located between Tapah – Ringlet. Take a break from the long, winding road to/back from Cameron Highlands, get some fresh air before continue the journey.
Besides this 15 things to do in Cameron Highlands, there are more activities you can cover, including visiting Rose Garden, Cactus Valley, Bee Farm, Jungle Walk and Temple Praying. Check them all if you have time.
