Cafes Richard Genting – From Paris, France to Sky Avenue, Genting Highland Malaysia, it is good to know that there’s finally a nice cafe in Genting that serves excellent coffee, particularly, in French-style. We’ve not been to Paris before but there are plenty of positive reviews we read from online about Cafes Richard – “A cafe that serves the best coffee in Paris”, “When you’re in Paris, visit Richard Cafe”, “one of the best roastery in Paris”, etc..
Established in 1982, Cafes Richard has evolved from Maisan Richard and remained as a family business for decades, with Pierre Richard running the business with his two children today, Anne and Arnaud. They are passionate about coffee, and has no compromise when comes to careful selection of high quality coffee beans, expertise in traditional French coffee roasting, to putting a cup of perfectly brewed coffee with developed aromas and right balance to each customer.
Backed with a strong profile and solid success proof internationally, we placed high hope to Cafe Richard Malaysia on our first visit there last week. Glad that it doesn’t disappoint, and we really like their vintage European interior that can houses up to 100 customers. The “flower” shape opened-area perched from the ground is especially impressive, photogenic when you see from higher floor of Sky Avenue Genting.
Cafes Richard menu offers a wide selection of coffee, complete with profile description for beans available. From hand-brewed coffee to espresso-based black & white, slow coffee with milk, coffee cocktails, coffee mocktails, as well as For white tea/rooibos, organic herbal tea, black tea classic cocktails, tea & herbal tea infused cocktails and chocolate beverage for non-coffee drinkers.
Slow coffee, or hand-brew coffee interest us the most, also the highly recommended order in Cafes Richard. Pick from your favourite beans of either Ethiopian Moka Yrgacheffe, Costa Rica Tarazzu, Sumatra Orang Utan Coffee and Jamaica Blue Moubtain, and have it brewed using Chemex, French Press, Syphon or Cold Drip.
We sampled Costa Rica prepared from Chemex, French Press Syphon, and enjoy the one brewed from Chemix the most. Bright acidity with mild fruity notes, great to go on its own, pairing well with a slice of cake too. Planning to check out Ethiopian Moka in next visit, as Summergirl always likes coffee with hints floral and citrusy.
Other worthwhile option you can try from the menu including Cafe Au Lait, one of the most popular orders; Latte A La Vanille De France/ Vanilla Latte, Latte Saint Germain/ Creme Brulee Latte, Latte Jardin Fleuri/ Rose, Hibiscus, Elderflower Latte. For alcohol-infused, all seems tempting to us, be it a French Colonial Coffee/ Irish Coffee, Coffee In The Clouds inspired from Classic White Russian Beverage, Floral Coffee Gin and Coffee Mojito. Most items are priced within RM40, higher price for more premium choices.
Holalalala, look at this “pandora box”! Everyone around the table was so excited when it was served. So colourful, so beautiful and we were so reluctant to pop them into our mouth! Too pretty to eat! This Perison High Tea by Cafes Richard comes in four tiers, available from 2.30PM to 5.30PM at RM128 (members)/ RM143 (non-members) for two, including one coffee or tea. Quite reasonable in price though.
Savories at the most top- Blini with Smoked Salmon and Chive Dressing, Smokes Duck with Melon, Salted Beef on French Toast, Foie Gras Mousse on Vol-Au-Vent & Cranberry Dressing, Wild Mushroom Quiche, Crab Meat Avocado Mascarpone in Cone; plus 3 mini drawers that gather the sweet- mini eclair, profiteroles, Cheese Cake, Fruit Tart, Assorted Macaroons, Pistachio Financier, Creme Brulee.
For those who prefer single order, they do have macaroons, eclair, Affogato, ice cream, French chocolate mousse and few other desserts to please. They considerately includes light main courses like leek soup, toasted sandwich, smoked salmon mini pancake and so forth, in case you are hungry and want to have something savoury to munch on before getting a cuppa.
Do make a stop at this famous cafe from Paris when you are in Sky Avenue Genting! It is located at Level 1 (*can be reached from First World Plaza, walk down the lane after Marybrown), same row with Motorino – a neighborhood pizzeria from Brooklyn and Burger & Lobster – the much-talked about restaurant chains from UK.
