Imperial Rama, a restaurant nestled high up in Malaysia’s most famous entertainment hill resort -Genting Highlands, is prides for putting together Thai and Chinese flavours in their food, elevating Asian flavours to of course, a more noteworthy level. The restaurant’s name itself, a combination of words Imperial and Rama, has somehow, clearly defines the highlights on Imperial Rama ‘s menu.
This October, you have more reason to visit Imperial Rama for a gastronomic experience, as the restaurant launches a 5-course Festival Menu for Malaysia International Gourment Festival (MIGF 2015), specially crafted by Chef Andy Seng Lup Meng. The menu is priced at RM338nett per person without wine, and RM468nett per person with wines. Available only from 1st October – 31st October 2015.
Appetizer: Crystal Prawn
The course meal started beautifully with Crystal Prawn, an appetizer packed with myriad of colours. Crystal white prawn, unshell from 200g Tiger prawn. Shaped into round ball like, lightly marinated with salt and flash-fried with oil. It is then laid over asparagus, topped with Japanese salmon roe that delivers natural saltiness from the sea.
The web-like biscuit heightened up the presentation. Taste wise, it is similar to seaweed but is actually made from charcoal rice flour batter. Crispy and great to nibble on. Coming alongside with the Crystal prawn is a row of thinly sliced avocado fruit, wrapped with tuna. A touch of Western fusion, but pairs well.
Soup: Double Boiled 6 Head Abalone with Dried Maca & Chicken Soup
We love soup, a lot. Glad to savour a bowl of pipping hot, tummy warming soup from Imperial Rama’s MIGF Menu. Double-boiled for long hours, the soup has gathered sweetness and essence of meat, Chinese herbs within, resulting in nourishing, pleasing flavours in every sip.
Can’t doubt the presence of 6-head abalone will be the crowds favourite, but we were told that one of the ingredients – Maca from Peru, is the star of the soup too, as it contributes a lot in the nutrient level, as well as aroma of this soup.
Entree: Baked Golden Pomfret with Chef Sauce
Coming to entree, guests will be served with a fish dish. We’ve seen cod fish and salmon fish widely used in may restaurants, but Imperial Rama calls for a difference by serving pomfret. Carefully deboned into about a centimeter thick with skin remained, the fish is put into baked until smoky, faint hint of burnt sensation. Further dressed with Chef special sauce which is thick, carrying appetizing sweet & sour goodness.
Main Course: Stuffed Sea Cucumber with Noodle Cheese Sauce
At the first glance, Stuffed Sea Cucumber with Noodle Cheese Sauce seems to be the most normal dish among all, but to our surprise, it was our favourite dish. Highly recommended. Noodles is imported from Taiwan, blanching to al-dente and showered with Western-Chinese style gravy ( Sharkfin Bone Soup and Parmesan Cheese). Just nice, not cloying and plus points goes to the wolfberries araoma lingered along.
We at first expect only sea cucumber, but as we cut and fork through, we realized it is brimming with paste made from minced prawns, chicken, chopped water chestnut and a little bit of cilantro. Definitely a well-executed dish.
Dessert: Bird’s Nest with Mango Puree & Snow Mango Mochi
A meal in Imperial Rama is incomplete without a try on their dessert. Two ways mango sweet treat, where one is akin to Yong Zi Gam Lou, sans pomelo and sago. Puree form, sweet and garnished with bird nest. While Summergirl likes the first, Summerkid prefers the second – Snow Mango Mochi. Paper thin wrap, enveloping fresh cream and mango cubes, crown with handmade almond biscuit and seasonal fruits. Notably good for both.
