This year, Hilton Petaling Jaya ushers in Ramadhan from 28th June to 27th July 2014 with their special Iftar and Sahur buffet promotion at the famed Paya Serai restaurant.
The hotel’s culinary team of 13 chefs, lead by Chef Ridzuan Malek, the Executive Chef backed with over 20 years of experience in renowned hotels will whip up a buffet spread that boasts a plethora of local speciality authentically presented in “Kampung Style” stalls and live cooking stations.
Magnificient spread of over 300 vartieties of “Buka Puasa” dishes will be served, ready to greet this year’s Ramadhan the authentic way. Malaysian favourites originating from Malaccaa, Penang, Perak, Kedah and Johore such as Lawa Roasted Beef Salad, Fish Head Curry, Rendang Tok, Ikan Bakar Melaka, Serawa Durian and Pulut, Kerabu Gamat, etc., can definitely satisfy even the most discerning palate.
Make sure you take time and savour bits of everything. Kerabu spread in Ramadhan Buffet Hilton Petaling Jaya is one of the widest choices among other Ramadhan buffet, featuring Kerabu Ikan, Kerabu Ayam, Kerabu Jantung Pisang, Kerabu Mangga Muda, Kerabu Nangka, Kerabu Perut, Kerabu Pucuk Paku, jelatah mangga, taugeh, perut, nangka and nenas.
Ulama-ulaman of kacang botol, pegaga, selom, daun ceylon, ulam raja, daun pengaga, pucuk gajus, kacan botol kacang panjang, petai, jering, terung pipit daun kadok, daun selom, ulam raja, paku rawan, kerdas, petai, kering, chili with condiments like sambal belacan, cencalok, budu, tempoyak chili, sambal gesek, cincaluk , budu, sambal nenas and sambal mangga allow diners to begin the buffet traditional way.
Diners get a choice of roti jala, roti canai, murtabak ayam, chapati and lempeng kelap from Little India, Roti Corner. Shower your freshly prepared, fluffy soft roti canai with Dhall, chicken curry of chutney sauce.
China Town counter is completes with Belacan Fried Rice, Crispy Fried Chicken with Lemon Sauce, Stir Fried Beed with Young Ginger, Kam Heong Prawn, and Stir Fried Mix Vegetables. While the fried rice turns a little pale when compared to their Nasi Briyani, the Crispy Fried Chicken with Lemon Sauce, on the other hand, delivers a pleasant crisy outer layer, tenderly delicious meat with a touch of lemony, tangy sensation. Good.
Deep fried innards of Paru Lembu, Pedal Ayan, Hati Ayam and Bergedil make Summerkid goes wild. He couldn’t stop taking two to three helpings of them. Adjacent to these appetizers, showcases mouth watering Ayam Goreng Berempah, Sayur Lodeh, and Nasi Basmati Briyani Chicken. The Nasi Briyani is the must try, featuring fluffy rice moistened with gravy loaded with aroma of herbs and spices, at the same time lending succulent munch from chicken.
Apa Ada Dipanggang counter offers lots of items to “panggang” (Grill) such as Kambing Panggang, Chicken Tandoori, Fish Tikka, Ayam Golek Percik, Grill squid, Honey Chicken Wings, Ikan Keli Salai, charcoal grilled cockles and more. The Grill Squid is a tad too dry, but adding a spoonful of black pepper or mushroom sauce will fix the let down.
Arab Famous counter, which is located at a less appealing corner, is worth checking out too. Bring your tortila to a generous wrap of grilled chicken/beef flavoured up with mint yougurt, roasted garlic maonaise or mango chutney.
Tandoori Chicken, South Indian Lamb Curry, Navaratna Kurma, Spinach Kutu, fish Okra Curry and condiments of Chutney Mango, Lime and Mango Pickles, Papadum and Masala papadum adds on the variety in the buffet.
Mee-Mee Terpilih Stall presents Nyonya Curry and Mee Bandung to noodles lovers. Summergirl made a small bowl of Mee Bandung with JUlienned pineapple, cucumber, bean curd and sliced chilli as condiments. Such a comfort bowl of noodle thickly coated with spicy, tomatoish gravy, dressed with soft scrambled egg.
Roasted Lamb
Roasted Chicken
Konbanwa, which means good evening in Japanese extends the buffet spread with few Japanese delicacies including maki and California roll, ebi tempura, fillet fish tempura, squid ring, vegetables tempura accompanied with soy sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger, grated white radish and tempura sauce.
Save some room for dessert! The Best Pastries Selection counter highlighting mini size cakes and pastries, so that you can try more. Mini Mango Cheese, Chocolate Tortes, Mini Black Forest, Bananamisu, Fruit Flan, Mirror Cake, Chocolate Charlotte, White Chocolate Mousse, Lemon Meringue, Creme Brulee, and Crucomboush on Tower. Creme Brulee is our favourite-delicately soft and creamy with a layer of caramelized sugar, not too cloying.
Only Chocolate Fountain is too pale, so Paya Serai PJ Hilton comes up with White Chocolate Fountain to accompany her friend. Marshmallow, grapes, strawberry, etc. Pick your favourite and coat them with white of dark chocolate gravy like a kid.
The dessert spread doesn’t end there. Trays and trays of local Nyonya Kueh such as Kek Lapis, Kueh Talam, Kueh Lapis Pandan, Kueh Bakar Pandan, Lepat Pisang, Kuih Seri Muka, etc. joins the buffet spread too.
Customize your own ice kacang fat the Air Batu Campur counter that presents almost 20 types of colourful condiments. We took some time to decide which one to have, and finally topped our bowl of shaved ice with red beans, corns, longan, lychee, jelly, nutmeg, sea coconut. Drizzle some brown sugar syrup on it too!
We like the way Paya Serai served their cendol, because they have pulut! After ice kacang, we greedily get a small bowl of cendol, adding in coconut milk, cendol and small spoonful of pulut. Not exactly fantastic, yet not too bad to kill our craving for cendol. Longan with Sea Coconut is served next to the cendol. Diners may have Bean Curb with Longan or Honey Dew Sago on other days depends on the rotation menu.
Lastly, do not forget to check out Putu Mayam with Kelapa Muda Kukur, Santan and Gula Melaka and Apam Balik at the entrance of Paya Serai. Variety of fillings are available for Apam Balik, such as the classic one- Kerim Jagung, Crystal Sugar and Kacang Tumbuk; or the more playful flavour- Choco RIce.
Apam Balik, the local snack that turns simple ingredients into mouthful of textures. Witness the bubbling of flour batter on the pan, which then gradually changes to brown, crispy at the outer edge, soft inside with sandy munch of crushed peanuts, sugar and creamy corns.
Other than that, enjoy the King of Fruits at 8:30PM, available at pre-cohere area every night throughout the fasting month. Patrons will also be entertained by enchanting stroller performance of a local traditional music group from Bale Bale Entertainment.
