Good food is now everywhere, be it within the neighborhood, inside shopping mall or at the back end of a quiet street. We stumbled into surprise of delicious fare again at Vida Restaurant & Bar, a hidden gem located in Seni Mont Kiara Condominium which is about 5 minutes drive from Publika.
The restaurant boasts a simple and clean interior. No overloaded decorations, just simple wooden furniture, long bar and comfortable seats that make the place an ideal location for casual dining, party and celebrations. We love the ceiling-to-floor French windows that are stretched out almost 180 degree, overlooking the blue sky during our visit in the morning. No sky high scenery, but the clear blue sky create a calm, tranquil ambience.
The kitchen is led by a young chef who has years of culinary experience in Malaysia and overseas. Menu is pretty simple, just a sheet of paper with both sides printed but sum up a wide range of impressive Western and Asian dishes. Cocktails, coffee, fresh juices and alcoholic drinks are available too.
Smoked Salmon Pizza RM26.00(8″), RM38.00(13″)
The must have in Vida Restaurant and Bar. First bite and we got hooked on it! So delicious. Extra thin pizza crust with crisp edge, generously loaded with tomato based sauce, smoked salmon and cheese, garnished with a pile of bonito flakes and squeezes of sesame dressing and wasabi mayo. A taste of Western x Japanese fusion which is incredibly good.
Beef burger RM28.00
Claim it pricey, but not once we get a munch of it, so huge that we could hardly cover all layers in one mouthful. Thick, juicy homemade patty, cheese and vegetables sandwiched within two fluffy bun, doesn’t matter how you want to eat it, just remember to open your mouth big to enjoy to the fullest.
Baked Seabass Fillet in Baking Paper RM35
A layer of crisp and lightly salted skin set off by soft, juicy Seabass fillet, placed over a bed of baked potatoes, leeks, french beans, capsicum and white wine. Mild but nutritious, we like it, honestly.
Devil Curry Chicken RM26.00
There are only 7 items in their Asian Favourite menu list, but each of them seems deceiving, be it Roasted Duck with Wantan Noodle, Ponteh Chicken or Nasi Lemak. We tried out their Devil Curry Chicken, and was surprise with the amazingly good taste. Chicken was fork tender, drenched in thick, creamy and fiery hot gravy. A hint of sourness, but the spiciness is more prominent. Served with rice and condiments of the day to sum it up as a basic, but complete dish.
Seafood Paella RM68
Short grain rice cook together with prawns, mussels, scallop, calamari, and saffron, impressive but time consuming. Cooking time is about 30 minutes, and the rice will absorb the sweetness and essence of the seafood gradually, while the saffron will colours and flavours up the rice, resulting in a creamy, soft, hearty paella with lots of Spanish flair.
French Onion Soup RM18
Vida’s French onion soup arrived in its very own presentation, sliced French loaf half immersed in the soup, topped over with cheese and baked to golden brown. It carries bitter and gamey flavour which stops us from continue tasting, as we felt rather odd over the unpleasant taste. A further confirm with the owner, an European, we learnt that this is how a French onion soup should be like. The authentic flavour may not be our cup of tea, but if you wished to try out a bowl of real French onion soup, Vida restaurant is the place you should look for.
Also, there is a reason to pay them a visit on Sunday, all because of the Sunday Roast! Diners can get a full 3 course meal at RM60++, or a choice of any main course at RM45++ if you wished to have a lighter meal.
Caesar Salad
For starter, diners can choose to have Caesar Salad with Sliced Chicken Breast or soup of the day. Ceasar Salad had Romaine lettuce tossed in salad dressing made in house, laced with bread and cheese then topped over with sliced chicken breast and beautifully done soft boiled egg. Healthy. Simple.
The BBQ Beef Ribs RM 49.00
For main course, get a choice of roast from the mouth watering list including:
Slow Roasted Beef Chunk Tender, Served with Herbs Brown Sauce
Roasted Leg of Lamb, Mint Sauce, served with Herbs Brown Sauce
Roasted Half Chicken, Served with Creamy Mushroom Sauce
Roasted Duck Breast, Served with Orange Coulis, Brown Sauce
Nut Roast, Cranberry Sauce, Served with Creamy Mushroom Sauce
Roasted Duck Breast, Served with Orange Coulis, Brown Sauce
Among all, we liked the Roasted Duck Breast the most. Firm, succulent duck breast with a layer of moist, sinfully delicious skin. We polished the whole plate clean even though we were already so full when the dish is served. Don’t upset if you missed the Sunday roast, as you can still get this fantastic roasted duck breast from their ala carte menu. Look out for their Asian Favourite list. *wink*
Roasted Leg of Lamb, Mint Sauce, served with Herbs Brown Sauce
Having the roasted leg of lamb without any condiments may be too pale and one dimensional, but the minty, refreshing yogurt sauce came in just right to complement the let down. All roasts are served with a side of buttered peas, sautéed carrot broccoli and Yarkshire Pudding. What’s worth a mention is the Yarkshire a pudding- homemade, eggy, buttery, aromatic, dense and chewy in texture, almost a cross between bread and pudding.
Pair your dishes with a glass of colourful cocktail, lay back and enjoy slowly.
